I just have a quick question about proper etiquette....
Most places give you place cards for the cocktail hour to mark your place at the smaller tables. And many place only seat 90% of guests at the CH so I am used to putting my placecard down in front of a seat, putting my shawl or something on a chair, and helping myself to the buffet.
Would any of you ever move someone's stuff? Like, let's say you wanted a full table and there were none left, would you push someone's chairs with their belongings on it away from the table so you could have it all to yourself?
I could not imagine doing this and find it extremely rude. If you got the CH and there were no more seats, would you move someone else's stuff so you could sit down?

Re: Etiquette question
NEVER why do you know someone who has done this? It is a CH where ppl should be mingling talking to diff ppl ect.

Re: Etiquette question
It has actually happened to me twice. Once at a friend's wedding where we didn't know many people. In that case, it was the bride's mother who pushed my stuff aside so she could sit there. I really couldn't make a big deal about it - what I'm going to argue with the bride's mother??
But at TWOTY it happened again. I got a fake smile with an 'oh, we're sorry' kind of thing, but it's not like it was an accident. It was completely deliberate. The 2 chairs with my and FH's things on it were pushed away from the table and left in the middle of the room.

Well, I just said loudly to FH 'I cannot believe some people had the nerve to move our stuff. Wow, that is SO INCREDIBLE RUDE FOR PEOPLE TO DO THAT.' And that is when one of the girls turned around and was like 'oh sorry'. I just glared at her and turned to Fh and was like 'oh, some 1/2 @$$ed apology apparently makes it all better'. There were still plenty of seats around so we just chose another spot. I'm very anti-drama so I really wasn't about to cause a scene since there were other places to sit. But still, I was just like ***!?!?!

Re: Etiquette question
this is why i made sure when booking my RH that there would be enough chairs for everyone to sit down at the cocktail hour. it is very hard eating while standing up especially when everyone is all dressed up

Re: Etiquette question
I would never do that. I actually went to a wedding where there was only CH seating for 30% of the guests I would say. So FH and I found a corner with a ledge and set up camp there. I could never touch another persons things

Same here. I wouldn't want to have to be the person that didn't have a seat. Especially when I'm dressed up, because I ALWAYS end up being a mess haha.

i've had it happen to me a few times and i think its so trashy and tacky to move someone's stuff!!!! clearly, someone who does that was not bought up with any manners.

Re: Etiquette question
i would definately not do that...the only way i can see that being excused is if someone moved it aside to give the seat to an elderly person that shouldnt be standing. that is the only way i can see that as appropriate.
as for standing during CH with food. i dont see it as a big deal, but apparently from reading these posts it is. good to know as we keep looking at RHs.......
