Etiquette question and widows at the wedding... HELP Delicate question...

Our wedding list is growing, a little too large and we have to cut back here and there, but there is a teacher that Fh works with and he is a young widow, with a 9 year old daughter. The only children that are going to be at he wedding are the FG and RB, we are afraid if we invite this person with a guest he will bring his 9 year old daughter, it is not like he will be the only single one there and he will know the whole table he is sitting with, some are single also. What do we do? What happens if he asks to bring a guest and it is his daughter? HELP!

I wouldn't think he would bring his 9 y/o daughter but hey- you never know!
Is there anyway you can slip, somewhere on/in the invitation, that it is an adult only reception? Just a thought!

I agree. He probably won't bring his daughter. The safest action is to mention something about adult only receptiton. Even something like, due to limited seating this is an adult only reception.

I just received an invitation to a friends wedding and it said adult reception only. Its a nice way to say NO CHILDREN!! That guy may even want a night out..he can get a sitter!! He may enjoy that!!

I don't think he would but if he does- hey- good for you--- a half price dinner. Kids are cheaper, right?

If it were me, given the situation, I'd let it slide.

can't you just address the invite to him and not '& guest' especially since your guest list is so large??

i doubt too many men would want to bring a 9 year old to a wedding. i wouldn't sweat it too much given his situation.

good luck!!!

If you are inviting the other coworkers '& guest' then I'd invite him that way also. Look at it this way - his daughter would be 1/2 price!

Have you met the 9 year old daughter? She may be a quiet and polite young girl who knows how to behave in social situations. IF he chooses to bring her, the adult guests might not even know she was there. It's the annoying kids that I don't want (but how do you say that to your guests?)
