Etiquette Question - Please help!

Hello,

I was wondering what the etiquette for paying for breakfast the next morning after the reception if people are staying over in a hotel near by or on site.

My mother says its a must, my fiance & I disagree and feel the extra costs would go over our budget.

So, if I have a wedding where there's a hotel involved, must I provide the guest with breakfast? Is it in bad form to not?

Thanks in advance!

You def. do not need to pay for their breakfast.

Def not a mandate by etiquette. It's a nice thing that some people choose to do but definitely not a necessity. Sorry mom!

you definitely don't have to pay for it! What you could try to do is find a hotel that includes free breakfast the next day (not sure if any do on LI). My sis did this and it was a great way to do it and everyone enjoyed it.

ITA, mine includes a free continental breakfast which is really all you need. Look to see of any options that have it included. I'm using a Hilton Inn Express.

I guess it depends what day your wedding is...we are getting married on a Sunday and our hotel has free continental breakfast during the week so we didn't feel the need to do it...but if we were getting married on a Saturday we would have done a Sunday brunch...but we have a good amount of OOT guests, and its a schlep all the way out to Setauket. I think its all situational...we would have felt bad not doing so since its a big deal for all these people to come out all that way, but if its not a big inconvenience then I wouldn't worry about it.

I don;t think it is. Luckily the hotel we are using has a complamentary contienal BKFS.

I would scrap that idea of paying for the breakfast. Just book a hotel block where the breakfast comes with their room.

Definately not a must... We weren't going to do a breakfast due to the budget...

However, my FH suggested that 'instead of putting a bag of crap in the room to welcome them - we give them vouchers for breakfast'

Since cost wise it'd be about the same, we're seriously thinking about that...

I don't think you need to pay for their breakfast. Our hotel has free breakfast for all guests the following morning. Ask your hotel as they might also.

I am having my guests stay overnight and paying for a catered breakfast the next morning. Per parents request and grooms parents are paying for it so its not going on my tab. I think its not necessary, but definately a nice thoughtful gesture. I think if you're asking for guests to spend ~$150 a night staying overnight and you're not paying for their accomodations, then its not a bad idea to have them depart your wedding day with a nice meal that you can share with all your hotel guests.

I don't think you have to. Why not try finding a hotel with free continental breakfast? Ours includes that!

You might want to choose a hotel that gives free breakfast. DEFINITELY NOT REQUIRED FOR YOU TO PAY.

If you have a hotel with free breakfast, who cares!!!!! Most do free breakfast any way. We are not doing it, our wedding is on a sunday, so we don't have this issue. For the guests that r staying the sunday, the hotel has free breakfast.

Maybe check with the hotel and see if they can work something out for you. If your bringing them business for your wedding maybe they can hook you up with a breakfast or a discount. I agree with the ladies that its not mandatory.

Thanks guys. It's so weird. Every hotel I've looked at so far for a wedding does not include a free breakfast (I'm mostly looking in nj)

The Hilton told me it'd be $28 + tax and gratuity for a Sunday brunch for my guests. Yikes!

My guests are a mixture of NJ & Queens. So noone is crazy far away.

if that was true my wedding would be a 3 day $100,000 affair! you definitely do not need to!!!

I have out of state guests for my wedding too and we were thinking about doing a brunch the next morning, however we were not planning on paying for everyone. Whoever wants to come can pay for themselves and we will totally understand if some people decide not to join us. Hopefully we will be able to get some type of group rate discount though!
