I don't know. I feel like you don't get to experience the real fabric of the European cities that way. I am biased, but I think you need more than 5 hours in a city to really experience it!
Sorry, I'm crashing here but Laura on the 2010 board did a Met Cruise for her honeymoon and LOVED IT! I say Cruise it and this way you can go back another time to the cities you loved and if there are any you don't like, then you're only there for a couple hours.

Right- but you have to remember that Rome's 'port' is probably 60 minutes or an hour and a half outside of the actual city. Same for most of these ports.
The port for Florence is about an hour and a half from the actual city!
So you'd really have about 9-5 in each city.
And the shops, etc close for at least an hour in the afternoon.
So you'd have about 7 hours of usable time in each port city.

Personally, I'd just go do Italy and take the train! They are inexpensive, typically reliable, and get you to the heart of each city!

Re: Europe Rec's
We did a re-positioning cruise in September, & loved it! It was really nice to have our stateroom to come back to each night... The service, the meals, etc. We landed in Venice, stayed there for 4 nights. We took the euro rail to Florence to explore (it was $250 euro) for FH & I, round trip first class. I saw others struggle with luggage, and made a mental note that, that wasn't something I would be interested in doing...
and its 7am-7pm in most ports so i figured thats not bad
i'm from malta!!!! you're gonna love it there - if you have time go see the blue lagoon its gorg!

It depends what your goasl is--- a relaxing vaca or to see every site bc you might never be back again? I have done both and lived in barcelona for 6 months- so if you have any questions feel free to fm me.

I think Antonella is doing that cruise for her honeymoon
Here's the post I made commenting on all the different ports about a month ago
We are looking into the Med Cruise for our HM too except I think we are starting in Venice and ending in Barcelona.
that may be the reverse of mine!
I originally looked at the ones out of Barcelona but the dates on the other ones seem to be better for us. There aren't as many choices during July that work with our date.

Re: Europe Rec's
just so you know, prices to Europe, before the holidays are crazy cheap! anything after the holidays and the prices skyrocket. so do it before if you can. i am also doing a 20 day cruise to Europe all over the Mediterranean for our HM in June and I think you;ll be fine. you get to experience lots of different cultures and you really do save a ton of money in regards to food and hotels. at least a cruise everything is all inclusive, but if you have the money to travel to different places, and the time, go for it. also, remember, once your onthe cruise, your there and unpakced and that's it. if your traveling everywhere individually, you have to pick up and pack every single time. I am italian and have been there many times and its easier said than done getting on a train and going to another country. depending on where you go, you have to remember travel times and you don't have a full day in the other country either depending on train times. so basically, you have the same amount of time as you would on a port in each city (this is if you are staying in one 'home' hotel and then traveling from there.
Hope this helps!

Yay! you remembered! its not the exact same cruise but it was one of the ones that I was looking at. Also, keep in mind, that if you are going to visit any of the holy city (some cruises detour to the 'holy land' or even to some Mediterranean cities, there are certain dress codes you will have to follow if you want to be let in to certain locations.

Re: Europe Rec's
Just go, don't cruise! You can't get the feel of a city in a day and some of the best European sites are outside of the cities. You can get anywhere in Europe via train or cheap (under $20 U.S. dollars) once you are on the continet. FM me if you want specific recs, I've been all over! If you have never been I suggest flying into Paris, doing the city, Versailles, and day trips then taking the Eurostar under the English Channel and doing London and the country. Have fun!
