I have 2 good friends who didn't get the ring. They loved their bfs dearly but things didn't work out the way they had wanted. I have a few friends who seem to be in bad dating cycles and are always complaining.
Then here I am always smiley and happy. I can't help but feel a little bad and guilty...I feel like I have to mask my happiness around them.

there is no need to feel guilty. you can feel for them, but don't ever feel bad because of your happiness!

Re: Ever Feel Guilty to be Happy?
FHs friends gf gets mad that I am engaged! Ok me and FH have been dating almost 9 years AND we went through 2 tours in Iraq! I think we deserve it!!! When we got engaged she even said to me 'I'm bitter'
About two weeks ago we had a bbq and she was there and she left early because she got p.o.ed because we were celebrating one of my best friends engagement and almost all of us are engaged - she actually had a temper tantrum!!!
At first I felt bad, but now Im like B!tch get over it!!!!!!!

Re: Ever Feel Guilty to be Happy?
7 days before our wedding our best friend's father died very suddenly (note - it's the father of my DH's best friend, who is married to my best friend....both in our wedding party......and we got the call that he was found dead as we were ordering the first round of drinks at my ill-fated bachelorette party). Talk about feeling guilty to be happy. We buried him on a Wednesday (DH was a pall bearer) - and tried to turn our emotions around by Thursday night for our rehearsal dinner. It was very difficult to feel any of the pre-wedding excitement - especially as I was running to their house to be by their side in mourning.....and then running to our reception hall to drop off our stuff (which should have been a lot more fun than it was).
Bottom line - everything happens for a reason and it's not always obvious what the reasons are.

Re: Ever Feel Guilty to be Happy?
FH is one of the first amongst his friends to propose.
ALL his friends' gfs are beginning to put pressure on their bfs now. They always use my FH as a reference point. haha

Re: Ever Feel Guilty to be Happy?
I know what you mean by feeling guilty but i also feel like all of our friends should be happy for us and not compare themselves to us just because we are engaged!
my best friend (jenn122397, see above- lol) got engaged the day before me, and at the time i thought i still had five years to wait for the ring!!!
when she told me she was engaged i was 100% thrilled and I never once thought that 'it should have been me'
when i went to FH's house later that day - i looked so happy and i was so ecstatic for her that his family thought that FH couldnt wait to give me the ring and he had already proposed!
so after experiencing that, some of the reactions i got from my 'non engaged' friends were very disappointing. . .
so now i really dont feel guilty. . .

Re: Ever Feel Guilty to be Happy?
I know how you feel, my moh started crying one night telling me how jealous she is of everything that is going right for me, how shes older than me and it should have been her...its hard for people to accept change...deep down they are really happy for you, so there is no need for you to not enjoy this part of your life to the fullest

Re: Ever Feel Guilty to be Happy?
I don't feel guilty that I'm happy to be engaged. We dated awhile before it happened.
When the shoe is on the other foot, the only time I've not been happy for someone was when I thought there were problems in their relationship and maybe marriage wasn't a good idea. Needless to say, their engagements were called off or their marriages ended in divorce.

Re: Ever Feel Guilty to be Happy?
i understand how you feel, my 2 bestfriends seem like that are never going to get married. And i can tell at times they don't want to deal with my wedding stuff or my ' perfect little relationship' as one of them put it during a spatt.
You can't let others bring you down, if your happy there is no reason to feel bad!!
