Ever quit a job w/o having something lined up
Re: Ever quit a job w/o having something lined up
I did once. My first job out of college. HATED it, and had already sent out resumes, but couldn't interview while at that job (I was working on Wall Street but interviewing on LI). I'm so afraid of having the resume gap, but at the time I couldn't stand it and was in a financially stable position that I could quit and be OK. Luckily I started my current job (where I've been for 5 years) the same month, so now on my resume there is no gap (I just listed May 2000 as the start date of the new job and date of the old job). I would try to get some possibilities lined up, just because I know so many unemployed friends who are having a really hard time getting jobs now.

I did! I quit my law firm in NY and moved to FL and didn't work for about 3 months in between.... It worked out well but you either need someone to stay with or a nice nest egg to fall back on for a while obviously!

I know that I really can't, but I had to vent b/c being responsible and staying is making me crazy! thanks for listening. I can't talk to anyone here obviously.

I did once...NOT a good idea. I was unemployed for a couple of months and was getting sick with worry.

Yes actually I did. My emotions got the best of me. I was lucky enough to find a job right away. The company I went to asked...I told them I didn't think it was fair to look for a job while working for them, so I quit. Yeah Whatever! They bought it!
Re: Ever quit a job w/o having something lined up
I just quit my job in February after four years. They switched me to the nightdesk (I worked at a newspaper) and there was no way I was working nights at a job I didn't like anymore anyway. So I quit and now I'm teaching dance with my mom. It's less money, but it's part time and I'm much happier.

My friend did this and regretted it because it took him five months to find another job.
