Ever worry...

Ever worry that your hall or vendor may go out of business because of the economy?

Just something that crossed my mind this morning....

I have a feeling that no matter how bad the economy.. the wedding business will always stay strong...I think we'll be ok... I HOPE!! :)

there was actually a girl on here a little while back whose hall closed! but i'm pretty sure they credited her towards another hall with all the money she had paid up. but how aweful

I still worry... I am going to ask vendors what would happen if they were to go out of business. I think it's a reasonable question to ask when booking. I don't want to lose my money.

if something were to happen, I wouldn't worry about it happening for your wedding. People right now are planning and paying for the weddings up until 2010. If something were to happen, I think it would be a couple years from now, at least.

I agree! And most of these places have been open for ages...and have gone through the craziness of the economy before...and will most likely get through it again.

I guess your right. I just tend to worry that something will always go wrong. Yeah I can't control it but I'm going to try to book with vendors who are well know and have been around for a long time.

This is why i always left the smallest deposit possible with all my vendors. Never pay in full, never give more than requested. You just never know what might or could happen. My cousin cancelled her wedding and lost so much money. She had full paid some vendors and they wouldnt give it back to her even though the deposit amount was only a quarter of what she left.

That's a good idea...their response will also give you insight to how professional they really are....
Weddings are the 10th biggest business in the U.S. I think it's still going to be strong even in this economy...people still want to get married and the economy won't change that I think everyone is scared right now and that fear is spilling over into all areas of their lives including weddings

Wow, I didn't even think of that.

It's def something to ask when booking vendors. You never know these days. I'm trying to stick with reliable vendors that have been around for years.

If any might go out of business I think it might be some of the florists because they are getting a lot of competition from places like Stop & Shop and if expenses are tight a bunch of flowers will be one of the first things not bought.

DH works for a flower wholesaler and the orders are not coming in like they used to from the local florists.

I'd try to wait as long as I could , close tothe wedding date to order flowers unless it's with a really popular, busy place that gets booked early.
