Everyone has a comment! LONG Venting

Is this happening to any of you? I was out last night and saw some family members. (Not ones I am extremely close with but are being invited to the wedding? Well anyway my cousin plain out flat asks me if he can bring a date when i did not give him a guest because he is a 17 year old kid. I invited him and his mother. Another cousin asked me if there are any kids invited. her invitation clearly just had her name on it. Then today my best friend told me that after i left my cousin with the child asked her if I invited my Cousin's father!!! I was thinking are you kidding me. First of all her father is not my cousin.. It is her mother that is my cousin.. And the couple is divorced and the mother has a live in boyfriend of several years. So tell me why would i invite her father? It is her mother who is my cousin.. So my cousin asked my best friend to ask me!!! I cannot believe people sometimes. It is like just shut up. I feel like i don't have to justify my actions or my guests to anyone.. THIS IS MY WEDDING... NOT ANYONE ELSE'S... People just have such a hard time accepting what things are.. My guest list was 215 people... I am not going any higher...People don't understand that weddings cost a LOT of money and they also don't understand that when you invite children i have to pay the same amount as if they were an adult..Besides i told her that the only children invited were my nieces and nephews and FH's nieces and nephew. I don't get it!!

You are right...this is your wedding and no one else's, and you should have it the way you want. Try to tune out what other people think and say, and remember that you are getting MARRIED! Take some time to relax; and just explain to your guests that you have a limited number of guests that you can invite. Most likely they will understand that.

I understand why you are upset - but don't let a 17 year old who has no clue about weddings get to you!

I know and I must be quite honest it was not the 17 year old that really bothered me. Because he was actually being quite sincere. it was my 30 year old cousin who should know better who really bothered me.

Two things.....
1- stand your ground...if you did not invite these extra people, then they are not to be there, no matter who they are or whetther they think they are privileged (sp?).

2- welcome to wedding planning.....

Unfortunately, many people do treat our weddings like their family reunions, and want to show off a hot date or their kids. They just need to be reminded that the purpose for the day is not a family reunion, it is your wedding day. JMHO

It is so funny but I AM ACTUALLY SICK OF MY OWN WEDDING!!! I am tired of thinking about it every minute of every day......... I can't wait until it is finally here and over.

Thank you for the reality check.... it does feel good to know that these are my decisions that were made and i am not alone.

My sixteen year old cousin did the same thing 'Can I bring my boyfriend??' I did not answer her and when the invite comes in the mail she will be in for a big surprise. It's my wedding and I will do what I want. Remember it is going to be your big day and you do with it what YOU want, the others will have their day.

When I got married almost 6 years ago, my 13 year old cousin wanted to bring her friend from school (a female). What are you kidding me? And then the family got pissed at me because i said no. It's not a school function, its my freakin wedding!!!!

I feel the same way as you. Unfortunately, we cannot please everybody. People tend to forget that the reason the wedding is occuring in the first place is for you and your FH. No one seems to remember that. It is really sad that weddings bring out the worst in people, and in family members no less! But I have learned to compromise with some of these obnoxious demands and requests. And some FH and I have flat out said no. Enough is enough already.

Let them comment. Tell them due to limitations on the guest list you want to make sure all your FRIENDS and FAMILY on both sides are invited before you worry about if your 17 year old can bring a date. If he's just bringing someone to have a date, say no. If it's someone he's been dating for a year, then you have to think about it.

But don't let it get to you. We are all getting comments I'm sure! Don't worry it will all work out
