Ok, so the most stressful thing about planning this wedding has been listening to everyone's criticism. As of right now, we have our church booked for 3:00 and our cocktail hour starts at 7. In my mind it's fine because we need time for the receiving line after the church, pictures at the church, traveling from church to RH (there will no doubt be traffic from Queens to LI on a Friday afternoon in the summer) and then taking our pictures at the RH before the CH so FH and I can be at the CH. My grandmothers have been on my a** about having too much time in between the church and CH. They're worried about what everyone's going to do in between. I told them that I can't worry about what 50 people are going to be doing for 3 hours, we have to do it this way because it works better for us. Am I wrong? I feel like not many people will come to the church anyway (only immediate family and close friends). My grandmothers have been giving me so much grief about this that I don't even want to talk about the wedding with them because they ALWAYS say something! So frustrating!

Re: Everyone has to put their 2 cents in
i hear u! my ceremony is at 2.30 and CH is at 7....we're only having a ceremony which mean we'll be done by like 3.30. i've been hearing it from my family that it's such a gap in between too but i checked w. my church and we cant change the time. oh well!
the way i see it, everyone will just have to deal with it

That's exactly what I keep telling everyone! I went to a wedding once where there was a big gap in between and we found something to do! I'm trying not to stress about it because I'm not changing it but they just keep bringing it up and it's so frustrating.

You should suggest that they host tea and cookies at either of their places while everyone's waiting for the party to start.
I bet that'll get them to quiet down about it!

I have the same exact problem but I have decided that I really cant worry about it. I agree that probably only immediate family will go to the church, so they are the only ones who this will effect. But, you know what? It is your day....let them all figure it out themselves.

I have the same situation...church at 3, CH at 7:30...everyone is going to my parents house for cocktails after church which works out well. I would tell people too bad, this is what works best for you!

I think that's whats going to end up happening is that my Aunt will take everyone to my mom's house and they'll hang out there for a while.

Re: Everyone has to put their 2 cents in
Unless you are getting married AT the RH, it is the norm to have a few hours in between the ceremony and reception. People need to shut it and not complain to the bride.. that is ridiculous. It is not your responsibility to worry about what people are going to do in those hours, you can only do so much.

My church starts at 2 and CH is at 7. I honestly don't know what people are going to do but that is not your concern. They are adults and can do something for that time. Its your day do what works best for you!. I will be taking pictures and spending some time alone with my FH that day

You can't worry about everyone else. My church is at 3 and my CH at 7:30. People will find something to do. Whether it be go back to the hotel, go back to their homes, go to a friend's/relative's home....whatever. Just do what you have to do.

I'm having the exact same times as you for everything. I figure it's great cuz like you said, there will DEF be traffic, and it also gives people a good amount of time to get home from work, change, and get to cocktail hour.
You can't worry about everyone.

I have the same thing and it's really not my problem what people do during that time. No one's said anything to me and if they did I would tell them to host something at their house then lol. I'm sure they have some friend, family, restaurant, bar they can go to hang out at in the mean time. Like you, mine is on a Friday so I know the majority of people invited won't be at the wedding.

Re: Everyone has to put their 2 cents in
this is the infamous gap issue. spoken about on the boards so many times in the past.
anywho, everyone has an opinion about everything!!! these are the things we have to deal with when wedding planning. this is why i don't say anything. i don't tell people the things that i do until after i have done them. unless someone is paying for something their 2 cents don't matter. your timing is perfect.

Re: Everyone has to put their 2 cents in
omg i was just having anxiety about this and just finished complaining to FH about thisl.. i feel like someone (i.e the MOTHERS) are always saying what we should do and they want to see things before we buy/decide on them... its so obnoxious because i feel like it takes me forever to make a decision and then when i tell them, my decision changes... I CANT TAKE IT !!!!!!!!!!!1

Re: Everyone has to put their 2 cents in
I went to a wedding two yeas ago with a three hour gap and I went home, had some starbucks, and relaxed in the air conditioning... and fh was in the wedding, so I went home alone and then went to RH for reception... no big deal
it was a fun wedding and a gap shouldn't be such a big deal to them... no worries, your wedding will be great!!

Re: Everyone has to put their 2 cents in
im doing the same!! its what we want because we want to enjoy our cocktail hour and say hi to everyone. our church is 2:30 and our cocktail hour starts at 7 i think. but we are having a full mass, plus pics at the church then driving from brooklyn to LI on a Friday night in the summer as well, and pics in the RH gardens so we make it to cocktail hour. i dont care what people say. i try to ignore anyones comments on anything that has to do with the engagement party and wedding. everyone had or will have their time to shine and do what they want.
