Evil
Evil FDIL
That’s me. FH’s parent’s are hating me right now and – well – I don’t care. I am even enjoying it a bit!
FH hates going to dinner at his parent’s house every Sunday. But I force him. Because it is family and you do that for family.
So last Sunday his parents tell me that FH’s brother is flying up for a visit! TWO WEEKS before the wedding. He can’t make it to the wedding because he can’t afford a plane ticket… but he can afford one 2 weeks before the wedding? FMIL says she is paying for the ticket. So why not come for the wedding? He can’t get off of work that day. He works for Lowe’s and they need him DESPERATELY.
I cry ******** – because it is. And furthermore it is a total and complete F U to Rob and to me. Whatever. Then his mom tells me that I need to come to their house during the week to visit while he is there. I tell her that I have plans. I will be getting married and that I work 46+ hours a week and raise two children. She goes on about how the boys haven’t seen their uncle in 2 years and that it is family. I tell her I will see what can be done.
Then we start to talk about the RD. I cancelled plans to have it at a Mexican restaurant because FH’s father hates Mexican. I tell them it will now be at the Gatsby. Well…. Fh’s father HATES that place too! So then my FFIL goes on a tear about how he doesn’t know WHY we are having a rehearsal dinner since we are not having a rehearsal. His mother says that if they MUST be there then they just will eat before they come. Dumb.
So after seething and fuming and venting about the situation – I come up with a solution.
I told FH that I will not be visiting his brother. Since his brother doesn’t have enough regard for his FAMILY to make it our wedding, I don’t really feel like I need to rearrange my life to get to the house and visit. I told him he can go with the boys if he chooses. He doesn’t want to. I also told him that I agree with him and that it is NOT necessary to go to his parents every single Sunday. We will be going on holidays and 1 or 2 times a month. Like normal people. He is thrilled. He called his parents last night to let them know about these things – and to let them know that since they don’t want to be a part of the rehearsal dinner that they are off the hook. We will be having a dinner with the family and friends who want to be there. At a Mexican restaurant.
I know I am a ***** – but being nice never seemed to get me anywhere with them.
NOW I feel better.
