Ew...Cosmetic Mole Removal - More Questions

Anyone ever had a mole removed from their face area for cosmetic reasons? And if so, how long did it take to heal, was it painful, did it leave a noticeable scar and what sorts of oils/ointments did you use in the healing process?

Thanks

I have lots of beauty marks or freckles. I have had a couple removed. I had one removed about an inch away from my eye. It doesn't really hurt. You feel a little pinch. They put bacitracin on it with a bandaid and you are to keep applying the bacetracin until it heals. Sometimes they do come back. I had that one done twice because it had come back. Now its a faint freckle.

i've had about 6-8 of them removed from my face/neck area. It takes about 5 minutes from start to finish. They put on a little band-aid and by the next day the scar is already starting to disappear. Most moles don't go too deep into the skin, so I always had just a slight indentation. I would say 3 months for it to blend completely in. I used bacatracine (sp) to help it heal.

Hi Rachel,

I had a mole removed on the right side of my face, right next to my ear on my hairline. It was a nasty little guy with a long hair growing out of it! I looked like a witch! Anyway, I got it done years ago, as soon as I was old enough to be vain.

To be 100% completely honest with you, I would do it again in a heartbeat. It was probably about 10 years ago. I think I might have been 17-18. I do remember it all though. It was nothing. The worst part was the needle they put in to numb it. I went to a plastic surgeon I think. He cut it out. No pain, whatsoever, maybe slight pain after the numbness wore off. But really nothing major. It healed beautfiul with the faintest line. The long hair didn't grow back for years than about 3 years ago, I noticed it growing back. I just cut it now.

So to conclude, I would do it again in a heartbeat. It was nothing.

He said this one he will 'Shave down to the plane' of my face...make the bump go away by making it level I guess. I have hated this thing for years and years and am getting it removed today...am slightly worried about scarring for the wedding photos, but the wedding is in 4 months. He said he would use local anesthetic? Does this sound right? And mine, by the way, has very little pigment...it's more like a bump near my nose with a freckle on it.

Four months is plenty of time for it to heal. It doesn't hurt really.Just a little pinch.

Would one of you guys mind FMing me and tell me about how much it costs? FH has a few that he wants removed but since it's cosmetic, insurance won't cover it. He's wondering how expensive it'll be to get it done if he has to pay out of pocket.

Thanks!

I am afraid of some awful white line in the middle of my face but I suppose that's what makeup is for....my Mom has a trach scar and she said we can use Derma-Blend together for the wedding lol.

Were you guys excised or shaved...and what were the restrictions regarding getting your face wet (or the area where it wa removed) and exercise etc?

I believe mine was burned off (shaved,I guess) and my friend said hers was hit with this freezing cold stuff and eventually falls off. I guess it depends on the type.

it doesnt hurt, I had one removed from my neck and Im removing one from under my arm.

They just numb it and snip it off. It sounds worse than it is

Its really painless. I had a few removed and wouldn't hesitate to get more removed for a second.

Re: Ew...Cosmetic Mole Removal

Hi Thrilled,

I had a few removed from my body, not my face. But, they weren't shaved they were scooped out. It didn't hurt except for the pinch of the numbing needle. It cost approx. $500 - you might be able to get it covered under your insurance if your doc can say that it's for medical reasons like melanoma biopsy, etc.
Also, I went to a derm for one and for the other 2 I went to a plastic surgeon. I definitely recommend a PS if it's on your face they will make the scar as minimal as possible being that they are a PS - they know what they're doing. I wouldn't let just a reg. derm. do it. JMO
