excel help

In my guestlist spreadsheet i have names with A or B in a column E, then i have the # invited per name in column F.
I'm trying to set up a formula to count the number in column F, if column E equals A (or B). If this is not clear and you think you can help, just ask me to make sense.

Re: excel help

If you're trying to add the total number in F, then go to the last cell in row F, click on the cell, then go to the tool bar and click on the sum button (the greek letter sigma, or the funky looking letter E). All the cells will be highlighted that are going to be added, then hit enter.

That will add up column F.

Re: excel help

I am not exactly sure what you are asking but here are two formulas that may help:

To total the number of people invited in the cell below the last row with an address enter the formula

=SUM(hilight the cells you want to add up)

If you want to know the # of invites, in the same place use this formula

=COUNT(hilight the cells you want to add up)

Does that make sense? If not let me know.

tracy -

I think I can solve this one for you, but I need to work with the sheet, b/c I sort of remember the formula. FM me if you want me to do it for you.

Re: excel help

the easiest way is to sort by a and b and then subtotal it

Re: excel help

or try a sumif

SUMIF(range,criteria,sum_range)

Re: excel help

I just realized that my last post might not make sense

here is what I mean

=SUMIF(E2:E5,'A',F2:F4) (this counts the total # in the A list)

=SUMIF(E2:E5,'B',F2:F4) (this counts the total # in the B list)

OK Meghan.....

What is the formula if I want to have the #'s in a column increment by 1 automatically so that the rows are in numerical order? Does that make sense?
