Anybody have any secrets or tips for diet and exercise and motivation to get going?
I really thought once I got engaged I would be so motivated to get fit, but it turns out I'm not!!!
I only need to lose 5-10 pounds so I keep putting it off, but I am starting to stress about it too....

I don't, but I'm interested in seeing what people post. I have a picture of my dream dress in my cube at work and nothing. Seriously need to start tomorrow...I have about 10X more to lose than you!

I bought a sample dress too (to get a big chunk taken off the price) and it is starting to feel very snug in some places...I have to go try it on again today because I am trying to pick my veil and my tiara and I am dreading it!

Re: Exercise and Diet Motivation
Get an exercise buddy. My friend Lisa and I started walking back in October, (we did it last year too but stopped during the winter months) we walk five miles about four times a week. There have been so many days when I come home from work and all I wanna do is sit on the couch and watch Will and Grace but b/c I know she's counting on me I get moving. It's the same for her. I've never been able to stick to routine before, I truly owe it to having an exercise buddy!!! Good Luck!!

Re: Exercise and Diet Motivation
My fiance and I have started working out together, so motivates me because we make it a competition, lol. He'll go to me: 'Looks like you're reall struggling there' and that just makes me work harder to show him I can do it better than him, lol. We just try to make it fun. We've both been sick and haven't gone in like 2 weeks, but we are starting to get back into it. Oh and when I don't feel I can do anymore on the elliptical- I picture myself on my wedding day looking better! lol

Re: Exercise and Diet Motivation
As far as dieting is concerned my mom and I joined weight watchers together 2 weeks ago. She makes me go. no ifs ands or buts! As for exercise a coworker and I walk everyday for our lunch. It's only a half hour and I don't know how far we get but it's a start!

Re: Exercise and Diet Motivation
My MOH and I are pretty good motivators, and we take a kickboxing class every wednesday and go to the same gym with another BM.
Last year before we went to Mexico, where we got engaged, I hung a bikini on my closet door for a couple of months. It was good, but I would have needed to bring it everywhere to stay reminded!
It was kinda like that yogurt commercial!!!

Re: Exercise and Diet Motivation
I tried on my dress on Friday and it was definitely a bit snug...
That is a new motivator for me...
My problem is FH...he told me he would come and show me what exercises to do (as far as free weights are concerned) but I always have to force him to come with me...he is the WORST motivator ever! And when he is staying home on the couch, I want to stay home too...especially when it is cold out...he is terrible!

Re: Exercise and Diet Motivation
I went through the same thing as you, but set the start of 2005 as my goal to finally get serious about diet and exercise. I also have only about 10 lbs to lose. My motivation is that I just keep picturing a skinny me in my wedding gown, or in a bikini on the beach (for our HM of course). Plus, the little bit of cellulite I had is disappearing already, so that's totally motivating me.

I vote for Weight Watchers too. I'm like you - just want to lose 5-10 lbs - I started last tuesday and have already lost 2 lbs so thats motivation for me. I'm also going to the gym so that I'm sure gets weight of quicker.
Personally, I love WW - I lost 25lbs in 3 months a few years ago so I stick to what I know works! Good luck!

Re: Exercise and Diet Motivation
My advice is cardio cardio cardio - and watching what you eat (within reason).
Once you have lost some of the weight you want to lose, then focus on toning. While it's true that weight training will help rev up your metabolism by decreasing your % body fat (muscle burn more calories than fat), unless you are on a strict diet, you probably won't lose the pounds you want without doing plenty of aerobic activity.
I am a former college cross country/track athlete and one of the ways I have found to keep up my motivation in the 4 1/2 years since I graduated is to tell myself I only have to exercise (cardio) for 30 min. Honestly, what are you going to do in the next 30 min that will be more important than getting your heart rate up and sweating? Which is better for your wedding gown: another repeat of 'Friends' or buring about 400 calories!? (I sound like a cheesey aerobics instructor)
Hope that helps!

what she said! when i run consistently-even if its only 20 minutes a day, every other day! you have to make yourself stick with the program. it'll get easier, you'll go for longer, and the weight WILL come off!!

Re: Exercise and Diet Motivation
I really have a hard time changing my diet, I love to eat and snack, especially at night. So for me, the only way to lose weight is to do cardio like 4 or 5 times a week for about a half hour.
One snacking trick I have is when you really NEED to have something sweet, put a little hersheys syrup in a glass of skim milk. It hits the spot, its low in fat and calories, you are getting calcium, and it fills you up a little bit.

I keep in mind that my FH wants to pick me up and twirl me around at the wedding. I dont want him to break his back. LOL

Re: Exercise and Diet Motivation
Thanks for all the tips and motivation girls!
I am back on my LA Weight loss plan (although I am not paying for the meetings, etc since I know what to do) and have been pretty motivated so far.
After I am done posting I will be heading to the gym for at least an hour of cardio!

Re: Exercise and Diet Motivation
The biggest diet motivation I had was the day the bridal store called and said my dress was in Seriously, the best thing I did was to change my workout - I started running and took aerobic classes at my gym several days a week...Good luck!
