extending cocktail hour

extending cocktail hour

We thought it would be a good idea to extend our cocktail hour, because we didn't want to rush through our pictures, but we still wanted to get a chance to enjoy the outdoor part of our reception. My mother thinks that people will be bored with an hour and a half of cocktails. Any opinions on this?

Extend the cocktail hour!!!! No one will be bored!!!!! it goes by soo quickly, and you are right to want to take extra time at the beginning of the affair so that YOU don't miss out!!!

Ditto!!! Do it! You'll probably be glad you did. Don't worry about people being bored, you'll make yourself crazy if you think about everyone

i was thinking about doing that too. but thought it might bore some people. But i do think it is good so you can have more time to take extra pics.

Do it! It is the best part and it is always over so quickly!! We are having ours for 1.5 before the food comes out - and even then, the room remains 'open seating' with 'cocktail style reception' Personally, I always hate the part when we have to sit down at our tables!!

Go for it! The CH is the best part of the wedding for many guests. Some halls (like Larkfield Manor) always do a 1.5hr CH by default!

Do it. I did and was thrilled. The day goes by so fast...why not extend it a little?

I have to go the other way and say I think people will get bored. I get bored at the 1 hour cocktail hour, I can't imagine adding more time to that.

JMO.

ETS: I just saw that you are not having your ceremony and reception at the same place. Maybe people will arrive for the CH late and the extra time will be used well then.

Personally, as long as I have free food and drink, me and FH are fine. I think it depends upon how many people you are having as well and what time of the day it is.

My entire reception is going to be one long cocktail hour. CH is the most fun part of the wedding!

I think it's a great idea! People don't arrive to the cocktail hour right on time anyway, and I don't think that anyone would be bored. They are so busy catching up with each other, they won't even notice.

The cocktail hour at the bourne is 90 minutes. I think Lessings does that at all of their locations.

I love that idea, and if my place weren't so ridiculous, I would have done it.

So many guests arrive late, and personally, my favorite part of a wedding is the cocktail hour. If it helps you out, go for it!

We are doing the same, i don't think people will be bored. ch usually goes so fast a half hour won't make a difference. i recommend it

Our cocktail party is an hour and a half so we can do our pictures and also enjoy the cocktail hour. It goes by so fast anywhere.

I would do it. As I am consistently one of those 'late' people, I would definitely appreciate the extra 1/2 hour!!!

Re: extending cocktail hour

I don;t know, I think it depends. The cocktail hour is often a lot fo fun, with the food that most people look forward to most, but at the last few weddings I've been to I couldnlt wait for the CH to be over because ther wasn't enough seating and it was crowded. if it's in a nice big area where people will be comfortable mingling and can sit if they want/need to (dont forget all the aldies in heels0 than extending it will be a lot of fun, but if it's cramped and theres little seating it may be hell for some of your guests, especially the elderly and disabled.
