Extending Reception

Extending Reception

Anyone extended there reception? If so how much is your hall charging you? Did they mention to you that you could do it or did you have to inquire about it?

I have just been toying with the idea, probably wont be affordable but would love to do it. Especially cause any of the reasonable priced hotels around dont have a bar in them. I would like to be able to hand with guest for alittle after wedding.

thanks.

it says $2500 per hour on my contract...I would love to do this, but there is a party after mine so I cannot..

Re: Extending Reception

I thought about extending our cocktail hour - but then someone brought up the point that some people could end up drinking too much- of course, it depends on your party and if there will be alot of drinkers, but at least for mine, it might not be such a wise idea (my FH was in a fraternity, so there will be a lot of friends at the wedding )

I haven't inquired about the cost, but I guess it would differ if you were considering extending the cocktail hour, or the reception....

Re: Extending Reception

I am seriously considering extending my reception. I am getting married on a Friday and the cocktail hour starts at 6pm. I want to add a half hour onto that so people have time to get there after work. They charge by the hour so I might as well add a half hour onto the end of the reception. They are charging me $8 a person for the extra hour which will work out to a little over $1200 for us. It is a lot so I am trying to weigh out the pro's and con's.

I think that you really need to weigh whether or not your guests who get to the reception on time want a 2 hour cocktail hour. THat seems like a long time.
But if you have lots of guests who will be late due to work then perhaps on the invite I would have
cocktails 6-8pm, dinner and dancing 8pm.

Re: Extending Reception

If I did it, I would add the time to my reception, it always seems at the end on the party you are having the best time dancing and stuff. I would leave my cocktail hour just that an hour and add on to the end of night.

Re: Extending Reception

When debating about extending, keep in mind the extra fees the band/dj will charge on top of the catering hall.

Re: Extending Reception

I extended my wedding on a Friday night. Although it did turn out to be a long wedding, i added the extra hour by adding a vianesse hour at about $6 a person. IT was awesome . a lot of people left after the vianesse was over, but the party kept on going and we had the most fun at the end. The cost to add an extra hour without a vianesse was about the same as adding an hour with the vianesse tables. look into it. it was fun.

I was throwing the idea around. Our reception ends at 11.30 and I think that sounds soooo much earlier then midnight?? :)

My catering hall is $3.00 per person for an extra half hour, $5.00 for an extra hour. I can't remember how the OT rate for the DJ. We are going to play it by ear if it looks like it's winding down we'll let it end otherwise we'll work it out with our vendors then.

I never mentioned it to stewart manor, but I guess you have. The price would be $3 per head for half hour and $5 for hour, is that right.

Did they say if they could do it that night?

Since I wasnt sure if I want to do it or can afford it I never mentioned it and was waiting until I figured out what I wanted to do, or just falls into my lap like this.

Thanks

Re: Kimberly - SMCC

Hi Kimberly!
They said we could add on that night and that it was actually to our advantage to do it then - something about the service charge or tax. I don't really remember. But they said it was no problem to do it - the staff is there and they stay 'til the end. The extra money is for the staff and I guess the liquor.

You got the prices right!

I'm not too sure what we are doing yet.

Thanks Christine

You helped me out alot, when I talk to them again I will mention I am thinking of it, but now I will wait to make final decision that night. Money will be a big factor, see how much we spent by then and how much we have to work with, if any.

Your day is fastly approaching, you must be excited. have you done everything.
keep me posted

Re: Thanks Christine

My Pleasure!!

The time is really FLYING I feel like there is always something else to do though It is really exciting though!

I just wanted to wait it out and see the mood of the party. I don't want people tortured into staying until midnight but I don't want to throw them out the door either - you know what I mean??

How much planning do you have done now? (I wasn't following this board too closely for a while)

Re: Thanks Christine

Planning is going ok, I booked my photographer a couple weeks ago. Now I need to get the band, my fiance and his father are working on that. Also my father in law to be is hiring singer and musician for the church for me so one less thing for me to do.

I only went dress shopping once, but I think i found a dress I really like, I havent had much time to shop, I have too many other weddings to go to or help plan, its crazy, but starting June I will go in full force I want to make sure I see everything before I choose. And my sister and mom will be here in June to go shopping with (they live in SC). So another reason to wait.

thats about it, got a couple invites samples. Havent even looked at florist yet.
Also need to decide on what transportation we want, was thinking of party bus, but might be too pricey.

I went over my budget on pics, so i need to be careful.

i will keep you posted.

Any advice.

kimberly
