I have a bridal party of 6 girls with sizes ranging from 4 to 28/30. I was out shopping for BM dresses and was told by the salesgirl that the dresses generally run approximately 3 sizes small. Now I am panicking because I have a BM who 5'0 and a size 28/30 so that means that she would need to order a size 34/36 in order to fit her properly. Bad news, most designers don't go past 28 or 30. I called the store and asked what can be done and they said that for alot of extra money (including ordering extra yards of material from the vender plus about $100+ for the seamstress to rip out the back of the dress and insert the extra material, that the size could be increased. But can they increase it 3 to 4 sizes? Has anyone else dealt with this. This BM is both petite and extra plus size.

Re: Extra Plus Size Bridesmaids Dresses?
I'm a size 28 and was recently in my brother's wedding. I ended up paying approximately $250 more for alterations and material (the dress only cost me $120), but the dress came out perfect and i felt comfortable and beautiful. If you get a good seamstress, she can work magic. Don't worry, it will be fine.

Yes the dresses run smaller than street sizes- did you perhaps try David's Bridal? I know some of their dresses go up to size 32.

My sister in law is also a size 30/32. We ordered dresses from D'Angelo. She ordered the largest size plus extra material for a panel. It turns out she doesn't need the panel. The dress fit her and zipped. So they do say that dresses run smaller but this particular manufacturer seemed truer to size. We got them from The Wedding Center in Commack

D'Angelo is definitely truer to size. My dress was a two piece. The skirt portion fit perfect....was actually a little loose. I'm busty so the top had to be altered. You may want to consider going the 2 piece route. SIL had the same issue....girls ranging from size 4 to 28. She chose the designer and the color but let us all choose our own dresses so we got something that fit perfect and made us feel comfortable. Everyone at the wedding commented on how great we looked. D'Angelo has separates that you can mix and match which was wonderful. There was something for every body type.
I went with Alfred Angelo too!!! I just picked the color and the fabric type and let the girls picked what they wanted. My FSIL went with the seperates and she had no prob!

Re: Extra Plus Size Bridesmaids Dresses?
I have these dresses from Macy's that were never worn still with tags in black. 6 altogether. (2) size 6, (2) size 10, (1) size 18, (1) size 20. No alterations have been done yet. I am selling them for only $50 each, if you like them. Just fig I would put it out there.
Thank you so much girls! This really helps. I want to find away to fix this problem before the BM gets to the dress shop so that she doesn't feel bad. She is VERY self conscious about her weight and is even clinically depressed about it so I want to do what I can to make it as easy and cheap as possible for her so that she can feel beautiful in the dress. She is one of my best friends so it is extremely important to me that she be in my wedding party. I don't want her to feel that there are no dresses for her. I already feel bad that over half of my girls can't fit into the samples so we have no idea what they are going to look like. We are going to have to take a leap of faith here. But thanks again for the great advice. I knew that I can't be the only one who ever dealt with this issue.

Re: Extra Plus Size Bridesmaids Dresses?
If you go to a good bridal place, they will be more than helpful. The bridal party I was in had all different body types and the women at the bridal shop helped each one find a dress that would work best for them because some could not fit into the sample dresses. The women at these stores see it all and I'm sure know what works best for each person.

Re: Extra Plus Size Bridesmaids Dresses?
it probably depends on the designer....my wedding dress is an 18 and im down to a 16 now (At my biggest i was a 30) but my dress is HUGE on me! and thats only one size! Check out the measurements and how the dress falls...
if shes bigger on the bottom then the top, the skirt might cover acordingly...but i dont know what the dress looks like or your BM
hope that helps a little...i might have just confused you more! lol
