So I went to the post office to weigh a sample invite and its was $0.61. GREAT. However, they said there was a also $0.20 surcharge since there was a ribbon bow which added a bump. Now I specifically paid for inner envelopes so there would be a bonus layer of padding.
*Has anyone else had ribbons or bows or rhinestones on their invites AND not paid the surcharge and had no problems with mailing them?? I plan to hand cancel but dont want my guests to receive ripped invites.
Id really prefer not to have clocks on my invites...

Re: extra postage question
So, that would bring the total postage to .81 right. You could do 2 wedding cake stamps, which would be .88, if you are willing to lose the .07 on each invite.

yep, that's what im planning to do. thanks.
I'm just not sure if its necessary and was interested if anyone else had the same issue (bow, ribbon, or rhinestone inside) but didn't get charged a surcharge... the envelope isn't overly thick or bumpy but the post office people saw the ribbon and then said it required extra (i didn't have the envelope sealed since it was just a sample).
anyone else?

Re: extra postage question
my invites had a bow on them and I did not have inner envelopes. They never said anything to me about them at the post office but my envelope was 'over sized' so I ended up paying extra anyway

Re: extra postage question
My bow made them have extra postage. I didn't try sending them through the regular mail with the bow attached. They put hideous ram stamps on my invitations! Horrible! For the additional invites I sent out..i left of the bow and sent them regular mail! Sooo not worth a stip to the post office or an ugly stamp!

Re: extra postage question
My envelopes were 'over sized' so instead of .61 we ended up paying .81 amd just went with the two king and queen of heart stamps so we over paid .07 it was better than some of the other options for extra postage.
