I thought the same thing at first - but the more I think about it I want those little extra details (like menu cards, elegant table numbers etc) I think the details are what makes it special

I feel the same way as you. However, I feel like I may do some things just because I have so much time to.

Me and FH disagree on this... He thinks it's a waste of money.... I think it's a necessity... I win!

It is the little details on their own and also when they are seen all together that makes your wedding yours. I know making my own place cards, menu, and programs will be a lot of work. But i don't see it costing me more than $100-150 which in the scheme of a wedding is nothing. I also like making things.... I think people almost expect to see it from me.

I think there are certain things that people will notice more than others. It also depends on the person. For example, many of the women would LOVE the slipper basket..the guys wouldn't notice it. Whereas on the other hand, the guys would love a cigar rollar. Some people night notice personalized matches...others might just pocket them to have spare matches. In the end, I think it just depends on the person.

I'm doing some and not others. Doing it yourself saves a lot too

Re: extras and DIY ...
some little extras will be noticed, especially if the guest hasn't been to a wedding with those extras before, but I wouldn't assume everything will be noticed. We've added extras b/c we want out wedding to have them..it adds a special element and 'Feel' to the wedding. For example, we have a sax guy to play during dinner who will give the element of live music for the older generation to appreciate. I know my grandparents are looking forward to it as they were slightly disapointed when they heard we got a DJ. But also this has some nostalgia b/c my FH's family is big on music and he had played the sax himself for years in school.
I love the DIY stuff because it adds personality that you sometime you just can't find. I would never be able to find invites that would suit what I was looking for, especially in my budget. DIY'ing them, I can also hand stamp each guest's name to their invite for a very personal effect. Since they are each personalized, I'm sure many will notice.
Other DIY stuff, like the slipper basket i'm doing because a)I think its a great idea since i'm usually one with black socks leaving a wedding. b) it adds a uniqueness b/c noone I know (or my family as far as I know) has ever done it. It's something people will appreciate and hopefully remember.
All together, I feel these things make your wedding 'unique'. The goal of my FH and I is to make our wedding unique and remembered..if we're spending that much money in one night, it better be!!! Without these extras, I don't think that would happen so easily.

i think that if even one person notices the details then it makes it all worth it.

Re: extras and DIY ...
I thought of the same things...We have decided that we are most likely going to have the cigar roller with the matches (matches are cheap when the knot runs a sale) and we are going to do cocktail napkins (again cheap on the knot) I am going to do personalized table numbers, but I really dont think the slipper basket, cry packets, and petal cones are necessary...but thats just me

Re: extras and DIY ...
in my opinion i would focus more on the things that people will see for a longer period of time such as table numbers, programs, menus.
its in front of their face a little longer so it may be more worth it.
as for adding extras from vendors...i would add what you want and what you need to complete what you want your wedding's feel to be

Re: extras and DIY ...
I'm having the same debate with myself. I see in bridal magazines wedding that did that, and it looked amazing, but then thinking about my family and how they are I don't think anybody will notice, so what's the point? as it is we don't have that much money to throw around. I decided to let it go until closer to the date and all the major things booked

Any extras & DIY that I do will be because I love doing things like that. If that's your style, go for it! If not, don't! HTH

I think all the little extras and time you put into these things, will make it your own little special day, and add a little of 'you' to it

I loooveee DIY stuff.. I get an idea and run to Michaels to make a protoype the next day. Honestly most LI weddings are very cookie cutter.. I think the DIY's and the extra's are what make it 'yours' (and fh's too i guess )

Re: extras and DIY ...
I'm definitely doing menus and programs and placecards. I'm not sure about everything else though. I just kind of feel that the table numbers they have are nice, and there is no reason why I shouldn't use them. I probably won't do a slipper basket, or things like that.
