OK sooo my dream was to always have a beach wedding. Surprisingly on long Island its not as easy as it seems. Either there's restrictions at state places OR private places the CHEAPEST was $135 a head. Could my family and I afford that MAYBE but will I pay that NO WAY!!! I would reather save for a house. I looked at a lot of other places. My favorite was a museum upstate 4-5 HOURS AWAY!!!. Granted half my list have been there before (its right next to my grandmothers) But Im worried about FH's family and freinds not making it : ( Its on a river and so beautiful you wouldnt beleive it. Very inexpensive also VERY haha. BUT we both like the Swan club its not what I had ever wanted but it was very nice. SOOO I guess the question is should I go upstate where its an inconvience for a lot of people or do the swan club where we both liked it but it wasnt what i was really looking for??? FH says do whatever I want. ALSO one more though local park ceramony and then a american legion reception (I have being center of attention and dont need fancyness) My family drinks and music is most important haha PLEASE HELP!!!

I'm getting married at the Fire Island Lighthouse. I also wanted a beach wedding and you're right its a lot of work to do. You can't have to reception there but it so beaufiful! there is a staff and its relatively inexpensive.

If you really love the upstate idea, then do that. It's your wedding and no matter how far it is, the people that want to be there for your wedding will make it!!

I am a Swan Club bride, so I am biased. But in reality, you should pick the venue that you think will work best for you. If you are worried about important people in your life not making it upstate, then you should pick a venue you like that people will definitely show up at.
But if you really want to have it upstate, then you need to let your invitees make the choice if they want to attend. Remember it is your wedding.

have you looked at the west sayville country club? They overlook the great south bay and you could have your ceremony if you wanted right on the docks at the maritime museum which is right next to it and they are affordable...

i would go wherever you feel most comfortable. the people that count will make it to your wedding regardless of where it is.

hey did u ever check the pavillion at sunken meadow.. I dont think they are that expensive.. i would check it out cause its in the water and very pretty!:!)

Make sure that YOU are happy! Don't settle =) In other words: go upstate!
Or shop around a little more on the island and see if you can find anything.
There IS a place called the Amity Harbor Beach & Civic Association. It's like a VFW hall, except it's decorated very beachy. It's on a dock, right on the water. There's a big patch of grass, and a little beach down the street. It only holds 100 though, IDK if that is enough space.

I say do what you want. We're having our wedding on LI and more than 1/2 of our family has to travel. Just send STD's early and find/give out OOT accommodation information and thoes who really want to come/ are important to you will come!!!
Have you tried Chateau la Mer? it's not a beach, but it's on the water.
Also, talk to the RH you want and see if the price will drop if you change the date or increase the minimum you guarantee them. One last idea, have a small reception on the beach here and a great party in a more conveninet location at a later date/time to include EVERYONE!!!!
Overall, I wouldn't settle for just anything. It's YOUR one day! Do what you will remember and not regret!
