Fabric softener to remove old wallpaper -- does it really work??

Has anyone tried this?? If so how? Do you put the fabric softener in a spray bottle or do you wash it on with a sponge? Do you have to mix it with water? How long before it starts to work?

Yes it really works. I used it to rip down all the wall paper in my house. I didn't measure it but I mixed Downey and warm water in a spray bottle.

It should work a minute or so after using it. Make sure you give it a good soaking.

I don't know about fabric softener, but my DH just removed wallpaper so we could get the nursery ready. He used DIF and the paper came right down - peeled off in sheets!

I had old wallpaper that was put up that the painter was removing. He said that the old glue (if there is a lot of it) is hard to remove. It took him a long time. However, he did not use fabric softener as far as I know.

We used fabric softener and water in a spray bottle. It worked great and made the place smell nice!

We've tried DIF before and hated it. That's why I wanted to try something else. I tried the Downy mixed with water and it's working like a charm! You don't even have to use that much and the whole house smells good!

We used DIF in spray bottle and got bad results...then got the concentrate kind and sprayed it on and it worked amazing!

My father is a professional painter and wallpaper hanger. When we moved in the house he told me to use the concentrated form of dif and this big mister thing. He told me to use HOT water and I had to mix the two and spray it on the wall. The paper came off so easily it was incredible!!!!!!
