Face products for ridiculously oily winter skin

I don't know what it is..I think it may be the heat coming on in my office/apt, but my skin has been a wreck the last couple of weeks. Totally oily.

Does anyone know any good face cleansers that will help the oil field my face has become? I am close to being able to cut off the Middle East as a supplier.

Bumping, I need more suggestions.

Thank you, but I've tried Clinique and it does crapola for me.

I'm not sure if I'm in Proactive territory yet, but it's a possibilty. Thanks!

Ok, could be wrong, but this is what happened to me:

I thought I was extra oily, but what it really was was that I was extra dry (from the heat in my office/apt and the colder weather).
Turns out my skin was trying to overcompensate by producing more oil (this explanation is per my dermatologist).

He said it is the most common mistake and what people do is go out and buy 'oily prone' skin products which dry out the skin more, thus worsening the problem.

My advice to you is: moisturize, moisturize, MOISTURIZE.....use a lot and use it frequently!
No more oily skin for me....all I needed was balance :)

Good Luck!

Sage, wow I never thought that for a second. I am so used to moisturizers clogging my pores too. Maybe I'll try a mild moisturizer and see what happens.

And, I use witch hazel at night Marcella, love the stuff!

I also use alcohol, I know BAD.. but my face is soo greasy!! Everyone always tells me that I should be thankful, b/c oily skin is a good thing for aging, but I hate being shiny!

That's how I feel! I hate looking like someone just licked my face. Blech.

I use Pro-Activ and love it---I don't have problem skin, but I use it as a preventitive. I started using it over 5 years ago.

I love it!!!

Same here. I use witch hazel too - it's a lifesaver in the summer!

I don't have any other suggestions for you Misty...except that I carry blotting sheets with me too. Tea Tree Oil sheets from the Body Shop. No powder and they work very well...until I grease up about 3 hours later.

I've also experienced the phenomenon of my face becoming less oily when I moisturize. I use Oil of Olay daily facials (LOVE them) and then a nice rich moisutizer (right now its Kiehls).

I have thsi problem too! I have invested a fortune in blotting papers! My mom has the same skin and she is 60 w/no wrinkles so Marcellabella is right.
Advice: Buy translucent powder by the truckload! That is what I do!

I also have oily skin, and Sage is right on the $$$ with her explanation. I use Cetaphil lotion at night to moisturize, it's light and perfect for oily skin!

This has been working for me:

wash with Purpose cleanising bar

apply thin layer of neutrogena on the spot treatment over one area of the face at a time. Let dry 5-10 minutes.

apply thin layer of neutrogena healthy skin face lotion with alpha-hydroxy and spf 15 (pat onto face evenly- do not rub in - this will cause on-the spot treatment to ball up on your skin.

follow this once in the a.m. and before going to sleep. This has really cleared up my skin, evened out my skin tone, and stopped my skin from getting oily by the end of the day.

hope this helps.

You ladies rule. So many great ideas. I'm going to start a new regimine.

If it doesn't work, the price on what I produce will be 1.49 a gallon, better than your local gas station.

I use Proactiv and 2 Rx meds on my skin so I can't help you with that. I used something Origins makes for stopping shine, it was good but I kept forgetting to use it.

I also use Cetaphil lotion daily (the spf 15 one) and Sage your derm must be right b/c I noticed less oil too.

I also use a creamy exfoliant cream by St Ives at night (and the proactiv in the morning) and so far no major breakouts. Yay me!
