I clicked on it once out of pure curiosity and it said that all ties/friendships to that person would be lost. I guess that must've changed!?!

did you delete them AND block them or just delete them?
I had a friend who I deleted but for some reason she could still read something i posted and she could still contact me... so I posted on facebook 'how do you delete/block someone' and SHE wrote me telling me how to do it![]()

I waited a few weeks then blocked her... haven't been bothered by her since.

No. BUT.. i've learned that you can get to non-friends picture albums through mutual friends if they are tagged in them.
