Facials?

Facials?

Does anyone get facials regularly?

I was thinking about starting to get them once a month a few months prior to my wedding. I only had one once, and it is not something I can afford to do regularly, and that one made me break out shortly after (which I have heard is normal)....

I am just wondering when I should start getting them (how far in advance) and whether or not people continue to break out after them if they get them regularly...my skin is pretty good overall, an occasional pimple, but not a big problem...

Any tips would be great!

Also, how much do basic facials usually cost?

Thanks!

Re: Facials?

I try and get them 3-4x per year....but I think this year, I'm going to go every 2 months to get my skin in good shape. I just had one last weekend, and I broke out a little bit, but now my skin looking good.

I would say you can start now and see what the facialist says. She'll be able to give you the best 'schedule.'

I go to Mario Badescu in NYC. They're great. The basic facial is $65, and you can add on additional treatments for extra $$. That's the cheapest I have found in the city, and even on LI. They also have a package of 5 facials and it works out to even less than $65 for each. Some places will charge $100+ for a facial.

Hope that helps!

My makeup artist told me not to get one after 6 weeks before the wedding to avoid breakouts

I get a facial every 4 to 5 weeks. I recommend starting them as soon as you can. Yes, it is normal to breakout after you have had one- everything is brought to the surface, but the cleaner your skin gets over time, the less breakouts you have..

I have scheduled my last facial about a week and a half before the wedding.

St. Tropez Spa in Port Jefferson has the best facial I've ever had. I think it's about 80 bucks. I try to go every couple of months.... but it gets expensive when you start to purchase products. Use Dermalogica. I can't say enough good things about it.

I had a facial about 2 weeks before my wedding - and my skin was fine.

On average, about 2 years ago I started getting about 4 a year. Once I got engaged I started going every other month and then 6 months before the wedding went once a month. I even had one the week before the wedding.

If you don't usually go, then starting early to find someone you like who uses products that agree with your skin is the safest way to start. You don't want to only go one month before the wedding and then have an alergic reaction, etc.

After my wedding, I went back to every other month because I enjoy the experience and really see a difference in my complextion.

I hopped around from a bunch of facial people and ended up loving the same person who I hired to do my makeup the day of the wedding. She is reasonably priced, does a good thorough job and isn't always trying to sell me stuff (although I tend to buy stuff anyway).

I use Jackie of I Make Up You who is a vendor on LIW.

The extractions SUCK with a capital S. My face is pretty irritated for a few hours, then it looks fine. I definitley notice a positive difference in my skin though.
