Failed my 3 hour GTT

Now I'm off to a nutritionist and an endocrinologist. I was told that I have to do diet modification and very careful glucose monitoring. Boo!!

DO NOT EAT THESE FOODS

Cake
Candy
Cookies
Frosting
Granola bars
Ice cream
Jelly and jam
Pastries
Pie
Regular sodas and colas
Sugar covered cereals
Sweet rolls
Products containing:
Corn syrup
Dextrose
Fructose
Glucose
High fructose corn syrup
Honey
Maltose
Molasses
Sucrose
Sugar (brown, corn, or powdered)
Syrup
In other words, 1/2 the stuff that's in my pantry at the moment...

Such a bummer.
Thank goodness this isn't a test that they make you take in your 2nd tri! I think I'll be able to manage 2 months of restricted eating...if anything I guess it'll be like starting my diet early. Boo.

Do you have gestational diabetes? Because I had it and so did Deb(Bearsbabe) and Michele did too. So we feel your pain!!!

sue
I had a GREAT nutrionist over at Stony Brook. If you want info, let me know. I also went to a very good endo and because of the combo the baby was born not too big and NO sugar problems. I am here if you need any info or any support.
It is not easy but Go Lean Crunch cereal is great to have. The nutrionist I went to helps you do menu planning not just telling you what to eat and not to eat. I found that much better than the 1st nutrionist who just gave me a list.

Apparently, that's what I have!
I faileded hours 1&2. Miserably. I think my levels were 178 and 186.
Thanks for the hugs.

Michelle,
I definately need a nutritionist. The endocrinoligist I'm going to is in Stonybrook, recommended by my ob/gyn, but I haven't been in touch with either of the nutritionists that were recommended. One was in Smithtown, the other is a woman in Stonybrook...I forget her name.
Could you FM your contact?
Thanks!

Sue - who was the woman in Smithtown? FM me the name they gave you...just curious if it was the woman that I was going to briefly for my PCO diet....

that list SUCKS

I am sorry you have to deal with this - but at least you'll be ahead of the game with restricting yourself later on. Its hard to drop cookies once the baby gets there.

Thanks. You'll have to eat the entire bag though, to make up for what I was eating

Hmmm, well as of lately, I think that I have been eating more than one bag for just me and my baby!

Re: Failed my 3 hour GTT

Sorry to hear you joined the GD club! The bad news is you can't eat all the good stuff, but the good news is that it POOF vanishes after you deliver the baby!!!

My levels would never go down in the morning and I had to be put on insulin, even after eating the 'right way' and seeing the diabetic nutritionist.

Also, I was losing at least a pound a week after being diagnosed with it!!! So that's a good thing! Don't ask what happened AFTER I had the baby though!

You can do it. It will only be for a little more time

Re: Failed my 3 hour GTT

Sorry to hear that Just follow the DR's orders, I am sure you can control it by diet modification. NO CHEATING!! I know that sucks, but its only for a short time.

Re: Failed my 3 hour GTT

sue those levels are very high. I will post tonight so that everyone has the nutrionist info if they need it (hopefully not, of course)

When I had the GD I need my waking number to be 90 or under and the rest of the day to be at 120. If you need any type of insilin let me know. I had to jump thru hoops with the insurance company but all of your supplies are 100% covered!! The Stony Brook endo from what I understand use a 140 2-hour post meal guideline. My endo was super strict and that is why my number was 120. Either way, be careful about what you eat. Even when I hate properly my #s would be too high sometimes.
