failed the 1 hour glucose test!

failed the 1 hour glucose test!

I found out that I failed the 1 hour glucose test today. I passed it the first time at 25 weeks, but I had to retake it a 29 b\c I have a family history of gestional diabetes. So monday off I go to take the 3 hour test
I'm very concerned as one might imagine. Did anyone else have to take the 3 hour glucose test? If so did you need to bring someone with you? Did you feel ok afterwards to drive home? I am just curious, my husband wants to come, but I rather him save his personal days for when the baby is here. Anyway please wish me luck, I really can't imagine having to give myself injections.

I had to take the 3 hour and passed. You can drive yourself home. I felt fine. If you think you need to lie down let someone at the lab know and they will let you lie down. I think they will give you something to eat or drink too if you think you are going to faint. This is unusual- I am not trying to scare you. It only happens to some women since they have fasted for so long. Bring a snack to have before you leave to drive home.

I forced DH to go with me for my 3 hour test. I felt that he is 1/2 the reason I was sitting there so fair is fair.
I brought a piece of fruit with me and a bottled water. I saved the fruit for the second I was allowed to eat it.
Also, get to the lab early. The senior citizens get there before the sun comes up and then you have to wait even longer!
The first hour was okay, the second was okay the last hour feels like forever because you are sooooo bored. Bring Dh and a book.

Don't forget that only 3% of pregnant women have GD and many, many of those do not require shots. Diet can help the majority of GDs. I have a great nutritionist at Stony Brook that helped me a lot, even though I did need shots. So, don't worry too much about the shots just yet.
But you would be surprised at what you can do when you have to.

That stinks. I just took my one-hour tonight. I hope your 3-hour turns out fine. Good Luck!

Most people are fine to drive home afterward, but some are not. Bring someone with you just in case.

Good luck...

The waiting room is filled with them :)

But at my lab preggo's don't have to wait - they took me immediately.

With my first pregnancy - I had GD, so this time my dr assumed I would have it again. I failed the 1hr but passed the 3 hr!! He made me take a second 3 hr a few weeks later and I passed again!! Still confused him that I was the first time and didn't have it with the second preg.

I don't think you need anyone with you unless you want someone to talk to. I brought a book with me and it helped past time by quickly. I also had a bagel ready for the second they told me that I was free to go because I was starving!! I had to fast from the night before -- that's why I would also go to the lab as soon as it opens.

Kathy- wow. I was told that if I got pregnant again I would most likely have GD again and need shots from very early on. I am glad you bet the odds

Michele - I was pretty shocked myself and so was my doctor, that is why he ordered a second 3 hr test.

What is even funnier is that with my first when i had GD, they were afraid of a big baby - well she was only 5lbs 3oz!! and then with this one, I didn't have GD and Emily was 8lbs 2.5oz!. Go Figure!

I went by myself and brought a book with me. I also like Michele brought something to eat for right after.

At my lab you can make an appointment for the 3 hour and I went right in also
