family and weddings (sad post)

Just read a sad post about a family member passing away and it got me thinking about regrets.

For one, i wish my grandparents had met my FH but they passed away long before I met him

His grandparents I had met but they are gone now too and I constantly think about if they ever said if they approved of me.

I am very close to his family, not so much to mine and I want to change that before its too late.
Also, I regret letting my fathers feud with his mom and sibling get so out of control and letting it affect my relationship with my grandmother. Shes still alive but I havent talked to her in 5 years. Dont really want to invite her for fear of hurting my father. Its not worth the stress on such a happy day.

dont know what anyone will want to add to this thread but i feel better getting that out ::sigh::

I too wish my FH had met my grandpa, he died 5 years ago and was quite the character, he used to work at the Playboy club way back then as an electrican and FH would have loved the stories..

yes, there were alot of deaths in my family, including my mother. And my mother never met Kevin. What is worse, is that when my mom was in a coma I was dating someone else she never met, and I went to see her, and talked about him (he was there too) and about how wonderful he was. I almost felt like I was betraying my mother when I broke up with him. Also, because of family issues I have lacked and lack the ability to communicate.

Regrets are the worst. But they will tear you apart if you let them. So what is most important is to recognize that you can't change the past but you can change the future. And you have to try your best to make the right decisions.

PS, there are issues in my FH's family where people talk bad about others. We chose to ignore all that and get to know the others, because it is worse when you keep the victim a victim through you (and your children).

It's tough. I never met one of my grandfathers since he passed away one month before my parents wedding, and my other grandfather passed away when I was about 18 months old - it's tough to think that I'll never get to meet these men. I feel blessed that both my grandmothers are still here.

As for FH's, all of his grandparents have passed away. The only one i knew was his Grandmother on his mothers side - she passed away 2 weeks after we got engaged and I am so greatful that we were able to visit her afterward. FMIL said that she was so excited about it and was so happy that Kevin had found someone.

I also have a ton of cousins who I never met, and others that we no longer speak to. It kills me that one man is the cause of all this (it's a long story that I rather not post in public)...

Anyways, I think we just need to be greatful for the family we do have, though we may not always get along.

thanks girls...guess I just mustve been feeling emotional last night.

Only happy thoughts from now on, like how Im gaining a gazillion aunts uncles and cousins by marrying my italian huge familied honey
