I have a dilemma. My sister (also my MOH) is dating this guy that my dad hates. She even moved out because they would fight all the time. They get along now, but I don’t know what to do. She wants to know if he will be invited to the wedding. Her best friend who is getting married 2 months before me put on her invitation “and guest,” because she hates him too. I just got an email from my sister saying that if he is not welcome to the wedding then she will never speak to my father. She has nothing against me, but I hate it when my family fights, especially since a wedding is supposed to be a joyous occasion. What do I do?

Re: Family Fued
I would talk to your sister and try to tell her that this is your day and although you want her to be happy and bring whoever she wants, you more importantly want your whole family to be happy. Explain that you are just worried about tension between your family if she brings this guy and you want this to be as stressless day as possible. also if no one likes him, your sister will be busy that day and he may be left in the cold without anyone to talk to which would stink for him

Invite him!! she loves him and what would you do if she were in your shoes? there will be more important things going on them anyone paying him any attention anyway. its supposed to be the happiest day of your life and I think whoever dosent like your sisters boyfriend can put their feelings on hold for that day.

I'd take a look at why your dad hates him before I made my decision. Does he hate him because he's mean or abusive to your sister? If so, not sure I'd be so quick to invite him. But, if it's merely a matter of different personalities and he's not awful to your sister (regardless of his demeanor toward anyone else), I think he should be invited.

I agree with you 100%. Your father will be so busy with you that day, that he will probably not even notice him there. Just don't seat them near each other.

My dad doesn't like him because he doesn't work, he only has done some part-time work. My dad is afraid that my sister will end up supporting him. He has always been the kind of father that has pushed education, and the idea that we should be able to support ourselves financially and never rely on a man to take care of us. But at the same time don't get involved with a man who will take advantage of that. She says she loves him, but knows she can do better. I want her to be happy, and I think she will be better off without him, but I guess while she is with him I have to be there for her. I know it must be so hard for her, because everyone around her wants them to break-up. It should send a message, but it also must be very lonely for her. Anyway, thanks for letting me vent. I knew you girls would be helpful. Thanks. for all!!

invite him. the more people try to break them apart, the more she will want to 'prove them wrong' and stay together, classic teenage rebellion style. she will learn sooner or later, sometime people just have to make a few mistakes and figure things out for themselves. be there for her...you would want her to do the same for you...

Do YOU want him to come?? If you want him there, then invite him. If you DON'T want him there, try to discuss it tactfully with your sister.
How old is she?

personally i would talk to your sister and tell her your wedding is not the place to hash out a family feud - it is inconsiderate of her to put this on you and no he isnt going to be invited out of respect to your father. any issues they have should be between them and not with you. as always JMO

who is to say the father isn't in 'the wrong'? i personally feel as an older adult, it is HIS responsibility not to ruin the relationship between his daughters over some guy that will most likely eventually get the boot (and if he doesn’t, so what? her right, her choice). i think it's important for siblings to stick up for each other, and if presented in this manner to the father, i would hope he would understand and not rock the boat. we all make 'mistakes' and it sounds like bridzilla really cares for her sister...
