Family Issues

My fiance & I decided a long time ago that we would have no young children at our wedding except my neice & my cousin (6 & 8 now). They will both be in the wedding. FH has 2 neices now 18 & 12 and I have 1 daughter now 20 (she will be a bridesmaid). We are getting married Sept 2003 and they are both very mature for their age. Now here is what I am already running into......

I was talking to my stepmother & my dad about wedding plans and mentioned that we were only having the 2 kids there. My stepmother assumed I was talking about my stepbrother's (her son) kids (9 & 6 now) who don't even really know who I am When I said no that I meant my neice & cousin she said 'oh they aren't being invited?' So I told her no.
The next day she emailed me & asked me to reconsider & invite them! Again I told her no & that this was our preference & that we were standing firm on this decision.

FH & I are planning & paying for wedding ourselves with no help from my dad & stepmother. As I mentioned in another post FH's parents said they would help but haven't asked for anything or anyone to be invited.

It just really annoyed me & got me really stressed for the night that she was gonna start trying to tell me who to invite & try to get me to change my wedding to accomodate her wishes. Even my own mother hasn't made any requests or demands & neither have FH's parents who said they would help with wedding.

Anyone else have similar problems & how did you handle it?

I agree that making exceptions will just cause bigger problems. My neice is not really legally my neice --- she is my mom's boyfriend's (of 16 years whom I consider my stepfather) son's daughter therefore making it my stpbrother's daughter which is my neice. Very confusing & very touchy since her son is legally my stepbrother. But I have very little contact with my stepbrother & his family. Not even a christmas card. Only see him at weddings & funerals & my dads 25th anniversary party at his house.

But being my cousin will be in my wedding party & I'm sure my neice will too just haven't heard from my stepbrother or sister in law yet That will be my final explaination if the subject is brought up again.....We are having no other children under 13 except the 2 in the wedding party!!!!

I also told my stepmother that I don't want anyone to be offended by our decision but it is just that 'OUR DECISION' Maybe if they were offering to help in anyway then I would consider it......still not do it but consider it. As my brother said to me.....I will consider everyone elses feelings even if I override them. Which I WILL!!!!!
