How does an illiterate person make it to 9th grade?

I don't like her - something about her rubs me the wrong way.

SOCIAL PROMOTION! This happens in New York City EVERY YEAR! It is cheaper to pass a kid along than it is for after school programs and tutors. It does not look good for a school to hold kids back. This is not a good thing.

I am not a fan of hers either but this is truly sad. At least now she has the resources to improve herself and get the help she needs. The only unfortunate thing is that if she doesnt have anyone looking out for her, she could stand to lose a lot of money if she can't read. You NEED to be able to read and interpret contracts. I teach children with a multitude of disabilities and it isn't easy.

very Interesting! How did she get through the entire American idol process without them finding out! I mean there must have been some sort of application process and what about the music selections? They did not catch on? Says something about the show imho. I am sure this would have disqualified her.

She's a funcitional illiterate. She can really be taken advantage of. I hope someone close to her with her best interests is reading everything for her.

This doesn't surprise me. I have run across a few people who are illiterate and you would never know it.

and there are lots of ways people learn to 'fake it'
it is very sad...but it happens
