Farah and Liz: I need help with YO's and SSK's

So with fall on it's way, I decided to get back into knitting (xmas and some friends who are having babies, also pushed me back into it).

I have been doing a lot of boring stockinette and ribbed stuff and decided to move on to something meatier with some lace, but I am having the WORST time with Yarn Overs and Slip Slip Knits. Does it just take a few rows to see what you have done with them? I wish I had real live knitting buddies

Well, my experience with YO's hasnt' been too bad, you just have to remember to move the yarn to the opposite side no matter how strange it feels. Example - one pattern I was working on made me YO so now my yarn is at the front of the work, then slip a stitch, so that the yarn is still at the front of the stitch but now in between a knitted stitch and the slip, and then K2TOG. You just have to do exactly what it says, even though it seems like you should purl because the yarn is at the front. Just knit no matter how weird it feels. You're basically creating a new loop to stitch into when you get to the second row.

I was trying to read the directions inn Stich n B*tch and it said to move the yarn to the front, but it felt so weird. I wil have to try again and see how it comes out. I found a great pattern for a lace scarf and I want to make it so badly.
