Farmingdale

Does anyone know how the schools are?? I am applying to their middle school/high school.

My dad is friend's with someone who might be able to get me a job. Let's hope. It will be a big change since I've only taught in the city, but we will be living in Massapequa next year so it will be a GREAT commute, and I HATE the school I'm in now.

Just figured teachers, or people who went there, or live there might know. I went to Plainedge, but don't know much about Farmingdale.

TIA

I live in Farmingdale SD. The schools aren't as good as say Massapequa or Plainedge, but they're better than Amityville.

Ditto...the high school is getting a bit rough. The budget always passes though, even if it takes a revote so there's a bit of job security there.

Awesome about job security. This is one thing I'm worried about with leaving the city. I'm safe here since I've been here for 4 years. I really HOPE I get this job!!

Even if it's rough, I don't think it will be ANYTHING like the school I'm at right now.

Thanks girls. Anyone teach there??

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I served, I mean taught at IS 296 in Bushwick, Brooklyn for 5 years. I found out about an opening in West Babylon. It was in the HS and I was freaking out. Then I thought about the 8th graders I had taught who had been retained and poof...same age. Also I was living in Lindenhurst at the time so to roll out of bed and go to work verses that horrible commute and the Jackie Robinson Parkway...I'd have taken the job even if it was for less money~~~

Good luck!!!!!!!

A lot of my kids are from Bushwick. I LOVED my first 3 years teaching in Jackson Heights. LOVED IT. Hate this year. It's horrible. :( I don't know if it's because it's a different school, or because I switched from math to ELA.

I'm going back to math no matter what. I'll stay in Queens or BK if I have to, but I will be moving from Queens to LI soon and Im going to hate that commute. I get to work in 15 mins now.

Thank you!!! Was it a HUGE changing coming from the city and going to LI? I feel like I can handle anything at this point. LOL

Re: Farmingdale

It was a rocky transition for me. I loved my old car pool, really liked most of the other staff members but the straw broke when the principal was tapping her watch when we got in 10 minutes late when there was like a ton of snow. (we left like 2 hours early) Meanwhile the people who lived down the block still weren't there. I went from worshiping this woman to absolutely hating her in like three seconds.

As for my kids...they are irreplacible!! So many good memories and great stories. It was a different world. I think the biggest switch was with the parents. Long Island parents are a different breed and view teachers differently than city parents do.
