I have a question: If my dress is pretty heavily accented with pearls, will rhinestone hairpins work as hair accessories? I just made them this past weekend, but then went to a bridal shop to try on veils with my dress, and it didn't look quite right with the rhinestone hairpieces in the store?
What do you girls think?

Re: Fashion advice
It's hard to picture - but since your dress has pearls, can you make pearl hairpins?? That might look more coordinated.

Re: Fashion advice
Ok, here is a picture of my dress. The rhinestone hairpins are flower shaped. I also started making pearl haipins, and made 2 so far, I have used a larger pearl for the center, and made daisy like designs with the small seed pearls. Each bobby pin was one daisy. I can't wait till my dress comes on the 9th to try it on all together!!!
Edited to say that the embroidery showing on picture has pearls imbedded all over!!!
I think I would use pearl hairpins. JMO. Considering the beadwork on the gown is mostly pearl. I'm anal when it comes to coordination like that, you know won't wear a black belt with brown shoes, type of person. haha! Anyway, if your dress had more crystally sparkly type of work, then I'd say the rhinestones were fine Good luck!

Re: Fashion advice
Pretty dress, seems like it may have a lot of pearls, so I would Not use Rhinestones at all.

Re: Fashion advice
I have the same problem...My dress has all pearls and some silk roses on it so the rhinestones would totally clash...
you can get 1 stranded pearl beaded headband, or a tiara with just pearls..

Re: Fashion advice
Use pearls, the two might clash. They both give a different look. Try BettyWales.Com

A beaded hairpiece would work best.
Sorry, I have to clarify and say a headpiece w/pearls.

Re: The Hair Pins
Hi Girls:
Thank you all for the hair pins advice.
Here are the hair pins that I made, I plan to wear either 4 or 6 for the half up / half down updo.
The left is the pearl daisy that I made myself and leaning towards wearing, the right is the rhinestone flower shaped button, on a bobby pin, I don't think it will go with the dress
Do you guys think the daisy looks too simple or it it ok as is? I plan to wear a chapel or cathedral veil and a simple pearl necklace.
I like the pearl one much better! And you made it?? That's great! I think I need to get more crafty!!

These were easy to make, I used really thin wire (from Michaels - I think it was the thinnest they had in the bead section) and I got a box of mixed pearls. Then, I just made one flower pettal, and twisted the wire, then made a 2nd, twisted the wire, after the 2nd or 3rd pettal I put the center bead on... And when the whole thing is done, I just used leftover wire to attach it to the bobby pin... You can also probably do this with larger combs, etc...
Don't use regular string/thread, b/c then the pettals won't hold up and you won't have the control over them...

Re: Fashion advice
I think pearl pins are definately the way to go, you might be able to get away with a few small rhinestone ones, just for a bit of sparkle
