FAT miss universe?

FAT miss universe?

I can't believe what I just saw on tv! Miss universe is being scrutinized b/c she gained weight in the past year! She went from something like 118 lbs to 170 lbs and they want her to lose the weight before the next pagent so she's not fat when she presents the next crown!

They showed pics of her now, wit the weight on and to me she looks beautiful! She is very proportionate (sp) and, yes, you can tell that she did gain weight, but she still is georgeous! This is sending the wrong message to women, especially teens!

I just had to vent here. My DH said that he agrees with everyone that says she has to loose the weight! Now, here's the same man that tells me that I dont' have to lose a pound since I gained 10 pounds since we've been married (and yes, I've been watching, he's just a fantastic cook!)

What do you ladies think?

I think that is the most discusting thing i have ever heard!!! i have battled with my weight since i was 20yrs old!! when i was a kid my father would not let us eat ANYTHING bad for us, like sugar cereal, soda, hotdogs, you name it we couldnt eat it!! i grew up being in the best shape then i moved out and have been 124-200lbs ... every year its a different saga for me..last year i lost 70lbs and still didnt think i was skinny enough, and that is only because of things like this that make women feel as if they are not stick figures we are not beautiful.. even reading a stupid magazine sometimes gets me down... and now to hear this???? when will they realize that the AVERAGE woman is not a size two!!!!! I would probably be more inclined to watch miss universe if the women on there looked more like she does now!!!!!

Re: FAT miss universe?

I couldn't agree with you ladies more! I guess this is why I posted this in the first place. I am a size 2, but struggle to keep it that way. I am always watching what I eat and now that I've gained 10lbs, I am miserable. I know it's from media like this. My DH loves me the way I am, but I don't feel sexy unless I'm thin. I would love to change the way I feel about this. I just wish the media would finally show the way real women are... not a size 2 and very sexy! To top it off, I'm also a short 5'2. Not the tall sleek 5'6-5'8 that most women are.

Oh well, we all have our struggles don't we? I just want women to feel comfortable and happy with themselves! (including me!)

I think it is completely and totally sad how people, especially women are judged by appearance in this day and age.

50 pounds is a lot to put on in 5 months....I wonder if she did it on purpose...I little sociological experiment...

I guess since she has the crown...there's nothing they can do about it!!

I don't like any of these paegants. Having a fat one is in poor taste. I have never been able to figure out what a girl in a bathing suit and evening dress has to do with the title, when she is suppose to be a role model for young girls. It doesn't take a good figure or a poor figure to be a role model. The message these paegants send to the youth of america is horrible.

And they wonder why teenage girls struggle with anorexia/bulimia. That is so sickening
