Re: Father and Daughter Dance
i would say you dont have to do anything you dont want to do.. if youre not close to him and dont feel its necessary, then dont do it. i dont think it would be weird at all. my cousin just got married this past year and did not have a father daughter dance, and actually didnt even invite her father to the wedding (her parents got divorced when she was 14 maybe??).

I have a similar situation, he is in my life but, just not a good thing. I didnt want him to walk me down the aisle either...but... greek familys will not approve...
Anyway, I am not having the father daughter dance. I am going to have a song for my mother and father instead, like a 'Parent of the bride' dance...
I dont know if that helps any

Believe it or not, if you are not close with your dad but you are close with your mom you could always do a mother daughter dance to a song like 'in my daughter's eyes.' i went to a wedding very recently that had a similar situation and that's what the bride opted to do.

Re: Father and Daughter Dance
I have the same problem. My father has always been pretty much non-existant in my life since I was 6 months old. He'll call every birthday and Christmas, but he basically knows nothing about me. I think I might just avoid the whole Father/Daughter dance. I would prefer to have it with my step-dad, but I don't want to hurt my real dad's feelings, even though he probably deserves it...

If you don't feel comfortable incorporating a father/dtr dance I would say not to do it. Maybe you can do something different like an anniversary dance for those ones that have been married over a certain amount of years.JMO

If you feel weird then don't do it. Im not having one, my father is not in my life either, and My uncle is walking me down. I'm doing a mother daughter dance instead. That may be a better idea.

I would say do what you feel comfortable with....maybe you can dance half the song with him and then half with your mom or something like that to give credit to both.

Re: Father and Daughter Dance
I am definitely a big believer in doing what feels right in your heart.. especially on YOUR SPECIAL DAy.. the day is about you and your FH.... and if you feel like it shouldn't be done.. then I would do a mother/daughter dance(if you are close with mom) or maybe do a special song dedicated to your 'supportive families' and everyone gets up and dances......with whom they want...

Re: Father and Daughter Dance
i wouldn't dance with him if he wasnt around... that doesn't make him special enough, for me at least, to give him a part in my wedding.... i wouldn't.. that's jmo, tho...
