I have seen alot of suggestions for songs- but I am so confused - it is supposed to be a song from the daughter to her father OR from the father to the daughter.

I think it could really be whatever way you want. You could just tell the DJ/Band how to introduce the song. I am using You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban for my father/daughter dance. It will be from me to him and I am not going to tell him beforehand so it will be a suprise. hth
