Father/Daugher dance...need suggestions

Father/Daugher dance...need suggestions

My father passed away years ago and no relatives will be attending my wedding in the U.S. There's no question that I will have my mom walk me down the aisle, but I have no one to ask for the father/daughter dance. I'm totally fine skipping the F/D and M/S dances all together, however, realizing that FH wants the F/D and M/S dance because he thinks it's disrespectful to the parents if we don't.

I have an older brother, but we are not close. And I have no father figure in my life. Personally, it is such a sentimental moment that I cannot think of anyone who can deserve the honor. My mother and I don't like to be the center of attention (and we would probably be crying the whole time). Would love to hear any suggestions or ideas. Would it be awkward if we only have M/S dance only?

Thank you all in advance for the suggestions/ideas.

It wouldn't be bad to drop the F/D dance and just have the m/s dance, but why not dance with your 'new' father...your FIL?? If you are close to your future in laws, I think that would be a nice change.

I went to a wedding this past summer and she didn't have a father so she did a mother daughter dance - it was like 1 min of a song and so sweet - they were laughing while dancing and it was really sweet to watch.

I say skip the F/D dance and just do the M/S or do a dance with your mom. Who cares if you cry? Those dances are usually sentimental anyway. Either way if u dont have some one your close to to dance with I would not pick someone just to have the dance. Makes no sense.

skip the F/D, just do M/D. I've seen it done.

If you and your Mom don't want to do it (because that's my suggestion) then just do the M/S Dance or if you are close you FFIL could take your Father's spot.
I'm so sorry for your lose.

I have seen the F/D skipped and just had the M/S and not had it announced so it was not as obvious. They just did it right after or at the end of the dinner course so they were the only ones out there. I've also seen a M/D dance--there were tears but I feel like with any compilation of these dances can bring tears.

If you don't like being center of attention, then just do what you are most comfortable with....it's your day! If you are close with your FFIL, you could ask him to step in, but that would depend on your relationship and personality. I am so not that type of girl so I woudln't but many people would.

Good luck It will work out!

Thank you all for the great suggestions. I did think about asking my FFIL, but really, no one can replace my own father in this occasion. And I do agree, I wouldn't want to ask a random person just for the sake of having the dance. Now it just takes a little bit of convincing, hopefully FH will understand.

Warm wishes to all of you in this holiday season!

I walked down the aisle with my mohs father because we didnt knoe if my dad or step dad would even show up. I did my father/ daughter dance with him. I lived with my moh for a years while my mother was in rehab so we are close. Her father was like a father to me. I have seen many girls dance with their mothers but if you chose to leave it out I think that would be fine. But if you would like to dance with your mother even if you are crying fools dont worry what.
