Is the song supposed to be picked from the Daugher to her father, or Father to his Daughter?
I know it depends on the father and daughter, but, does it make a difference? Am I supposed to pick it to honor and thank my father? or Should I have him pick it?
Oh--Goodness...Why am I making myself nuts.

Re: Father/Daughter Song?
Oh boy, I never thought about it like that! I guess I always figured it was a song I pick to honor my father...but maybe you are right.
To make matters more complex, I want to pick a song for my stepfather too. eeek!

I think its the daughter honoring the father and how he brought her up till this point and is now giving her away.

Re: Father/Daughter Song?
In my case I couldn't pick a song to dance with my father so I asked him to choose it. He chose 'Daddy's Little Girl' along with 'Times of Your Life' .... they meshed the two together and it sounded wonderful.
I think it's a song from the Father to Daughter. JMO

IMO, it's supposed to be a song that means something to the both of you. We used 'If I had the World to Give' because my dad used to sing it to me when I was a baby.

Here are the words--by martina mcbride
In My Daughter's Eyes In my daughter's eyes I am a hero I am strong and wise and I know no fear But the truth is plain to see She was sent to rescue me I see who I wanna be In my daughter's eyes
In my daughter's eyes everyone is equal Darkness turns to light and the world is at peace This miracle God gave to me gives me strength when I am weak I find reason to believe In my daughter's eyes
And when she wraps her hand around my finger Oh it puts a smile in my heart Everything becomes a little clearer I realize what life is all about
It's hangin' on when your heart has had enough It's giving more when you feel like giving up I've seen the light It's in my daugter's eyes
In my daughter's eyes I can see the future A reflection of who I am and what will be Though she'll grow and someday leave Maybe raise a family When I'm gone I hope you see how happy she made me For I'll be there In my daughter's eyes

Re: Father/Daughter Song?
I love Martina McBride's song and wold love to have it sung by the male singer in our wedding band. My mother thinks the song should be a surprise. So I feel funny about picking a song about what I think I mean to my dad...
If I were to pick a song with meaning about how I feel about my dad I think I would pick 'Because You Loved Me.'
I'll talk to him and get his opinion. I was just wondering if there was a rule.
Thanks for your opionions.
Hummm... excuse my horrific spelling. Oops.

Re: Father/Daughter Song?
I love the idea of surprising my dad, but I am already fearing how overly emotional he will be that day!!! I think I better tell him in advance so at least he is prepared.

Re: Father/Daughter Song?
'Emotional' isn't the word....a couple of years ago I put my mothers wedding dress on and he started crying.

Re: Father/Daughter Song?
I'm leaning towards 'My Girl' by the Temptations or 'Anytime you need a Friend' by Mariah Carey. My dad was just diagnosed with prostate cancer, so thinking of this is making me emotional right now!!!
