Favorite moments from weddings you have attended

On my drive into work today I started thinking of all the weddings I have been to and recalling some of those really special moments.

I started thinking about my sister's wedding a few years ago, I have 5 sisters (and 1 brother); for Bec's Father-daughter dance she played 'Thank Heaven for Little Girls'

It may not seem like the right song for a F/D dance, but it was what she did with it. Before the wedding she asked for my sister and me to gather the rest of our sisters and bring then out to the dance floor a minute of so into the dance, so we could all surround my father and dance with him together. The moment was really amazing, we all got out there and it took a few seconds for my father to realize what was happening, once he did he got all chocked up and started to cry. My father is one of those men who doesn't cry, he's that strong, quiet type and is very prtective of his daughters. I think just about everyone in the RH was crying after that dance.

Needless to say i was a little teary on my drive in today.

At all the family weddings, my cousin plays the bag pipes - and it used to be my uncle and cousin. When my oldest brother got married, my uncle wasn't doing so well -- but he and my cousin played outside the church and right before dessert. It's tradition for them to come in and play a few songs - one of which the bride and groom have to slow dance to while the groom wears the beret.

My uncle wasn't in good health at the time, but he played his heart out with my cousin. That was the last time I saw him play the bag pipes, as he passed away before the next family wedding. I'll never forget that -- and that memory will definitely make me cry when my cousin plays at our wedding reception.

That is really sweet, I'd be crying oo. Bagpipes have the most wonderful sound, it will be very special to have your cousin play them for you

Re: Favorite moments from weddings you have attended

My favorite moment was at FH's brother's wedding last year. When it was time for the Father/Daughter dance, FSIL's father took the mic for a little pre-dance speech.

He pulled out a folded up piece of paper, and a casette tape. He explained that when she was 14 years old (15 years ago), she mailed both of them to him - because her parents were divorced, she lived in PA and he lived in NYC. He then read the letter at the wedding that he kept all these years, and it was FSIL telling him about this song she heard on the radio, about a father and daughter on her wedding day, and that when the day came for her to get married she wanted that to be the song they danced to....And with the letter, was the tape with 'Butterfly Kisses' recorded on it.

She had no idea he kept the letter and tape - and I swear there was not a dry eye in the house! God, I'm tearing up right now thinking about it . It was just so touching and thoughtful, a moment that I'll never forget.

These moments are so touching and beautiful! It makes me feel kind of bad that my story steers things away from that, but this experience was HILARIOUS:

At my friend's wedding a few years ago, the best man got up to give his speech and started talking about what a stud the groom had been in his single days. He said that now that the groom was married, all the ladies who had keys to his apartment would have to give them back. Unbeknownst to my friend and her DH, the best man had gone around to like 50 women of all ages before the speech and told them what he was going to do - after he said that line, all these women started going up to the dais with keys. After a few minutes it looked like it was over, and then someone's 85-year old relative got up slowly and walked over with her cane and dropped off some keys, and blew the groom a kiss! We were dying

Here are just a small few I can think of at the moment...

Sister's father in law is known for singing 'Mack The Knife' at big fam events. He does an awesome job. He sang it at my sisters wedding and it was such a hit. We all went nuts!

Also, my bro in law is known for doing the Cotton Eye Joe and getting everyone on the dance floor to teach them. It has happened at the last 4-5 fam weddings and everyone now loves it and expects to get out there and do it with him, so I'm sure he'll be doing it at mine. He also says he is going to reveal a new dance! Who knows what the heck it will be? The first time he did it, it was hilarious, it was at his own wedding and his friends pushed him out there and no one joined him...it was just him by himself doing the cotton eye joe round and round the dancefloor alone!!! We all got a kick out of it tho. Of course my sister/his now wife was mortified! We have the greatest pics from every time he's done it!

My sister dancing w/ my dad who was terminally ill. It was amazing that he was able to make it and walk her down then aisle and do the father daughter dance. We all treasure those pics now that he's gone. I'm so glad he was able to see one of our weddings.

Oh, I have a Part 2 to my post above. This is by far not my 'favorite' moment, but definitely one to remember!

At that same wedding, FH's brother decided to put on a show of his own..... Halfway through the reception, he changed out of his suit, into a wrestling outfit - spandex shorts and all, tight tank top.....and wore a WWF wrestling mask (mind you, he is on the 'larger side'), and proceeded to get on stage and sing some heavy metal song with the band.

He likes to dress up like this at bbqs also - I'm really not quite sure why, he's a bit of an attention hog obviously. But FH and his other brother were mortified!!

Like I said, not my favorite - but definitely hard to forget!!!

OMG I would have died if I saw that Some of those moments are really beautiful...

My personal fave was at my friend's wedding. She's a product of the late 70s/early 80s...so when the DJ started playing her fave music she started dancing & having a real good time. Well suddenly the DJ started playing a certain fave song of hers & right in the middle of the dance floor, surrounded broke into THE BEST robot that I have ever seen! She even broke it down in her gown!!! It was the best thing that I've ever seen at a wedding & I will NEVER forget it

all these fav moments are so sentimental. lol i feel so funny saying mine

at a friend of DH's wedding a few years ago--they did a funny homage to old school hip hop. the groom and his GMs all used to breakdance a lot and LOVED the original hip hop from back in the day. (not the crap that's out now) so during the reception, the groom and his brother took off their tuxedo vests/jackets and busted out the Adidas t-shirts & sneakers--complete with a boom box. the DJ was playing some Grandmaster Flash and Sugar Hill and it was AWESOME. They all started 'battling' break dancing style, and even the bride (who has no rythmn) wanted to get in on the action and actually got on her back and spun around. it was hilarious!!!

ETA for pics:

Re: Favorite moments from weddings you have attended

You guys made me cry at work with some of these memories!!!

At my cousin's wedding in August, her father (my uncle), her FIL, her brother (my cousin), her DH, and our grandfather dressed up like the Villiage People and did the YMCA... no one knew they were going to do it. The song came on and out they popped... HYSTERICAL! Especially because our 80 year old grandfather was the one dressed in the leather!!

Again, at my cousin's wedding in August, her brother was the 'Man of Honor'. His speech was great!! They never got along as kids and she would ALWAYS get him into trouble. He swore that he would one day get revenge... as soon as he said the word revenge, out come all of the waiters with my cousin's fith grade picture (which unfortunately was a bad year for her) and handed it out to every table!!!

Lastly, my neighbor got married shortly after 9/11. Her father is a fire cheif for the FDNY so you can imagine what he went thru. He's also a member of the FDNY Emerald Society. So, we were all on the dance floor having a great time when this man dressed in a kilt came out on to the dance floor and walked to perimeter to clear the floor. We all gathered around as members from the Emerald Society came out onto the dance floor and played for everyone while my neighbor and her father danced in the middle... not a dry eye in the house... to this day, my father still tears up when we talk about it, 5 years later.
