Ok ladies, after much thought and stress, I think I've finally figured out what to use for my favors!! Actually, it was my future mother-in-law's idea...a small decorative gift box filled with 4 truffles. We saw it at a candy store for $4/each..which is kind of pricey so I am going to keep looking to see if I can find it for less. What do you think?? Is anyone using candy for favors, and if so, what and how much?? (just to kind an idea!!) :) JOY

Joy.. I used to work in a candy store in college and made many wedding favors...they would usually average $1 a box (1993)...This was Fanny Farmer (I don't know if there are any on LI) and it was their policy to wrap anything free of charge...you might want to check out some local candy stores...you can even buy the acetate boxes and bulk candies... A friend's sister found a nice box (begins with L but cannot remember) for about $1. good luck

I`m actually doing chocolate for my favors as well. My mom and I are making them ourselves. We`re making chocolate heart boxes, and filling them with little chocolates. Wrapping them up in some tulle and tying it up with some ribbon. If you go to a chocolate supply place, you can buy the molds and chocolate to do it yourself. It is time comsuming, but can be fun and saves some $$.

if you want to do it yourself, try getting the boxes from Michaels and using their 40% off coupon, even if you have to make 2 trips, you'll save $$$. The chocolates you can buy in bulk from a candy store although you may not save any money getting them directly from a candy store....GOOD LUCK...

Truffles...

I think (dont quote me on this), but Lindt truffles (in the Source Mall near Roosevelt Field) sells loose truffles for around .30 each - so if you buy 4, it's 1.20/person, plus the cost of boxes, which I agree, can be bought in Michael's...this may save you some money. I could be wrong about the price, maybe it was .39 each? Either way, it could work out to be less than $4/favor if you do it this way. Good luck!

I am doing a similar idea for a favor except that I am going to order the packs of small personalized boxes (our names and the date) that they sell in the back of wedding invitation catalogs. I also bought a candy mold in the shape of a groom and bride standing next to each other.

Lindt Truffles..in bulk and boxes from Papermart.

Lindt sells their truffles in bulk - they were very reasonable. Take a look at www.papermart.com for boxes and ribbon. - Enjoy

how far in advance will you be making the favors?

wow, these are all great ideas!! For those of you doing the favors yourself...how far in advance are you going to start? I figured you can't start too early cuz you want the chocolate to be fresh...but then if you cut it too close, you might feel overwhelmed with everything. Has anyone tried those Lindt truffles? I'm just curious!! You don't want to give out bad chocolate!! I am going to a couple of candy stores today...Krisch's in Massapequa, and the Chocolate Duck in Farmingdale...I'm going to check prices for pre-made favors, then look into doing it myself. If it's not too expensive, I'd rather have someone else do the work!! I have enough to do already!!!!!! ACK!! Thank you all for the great suggestions..I'll keep ya posted!! :) JOY

I gained at least 10 lbs. from Lindt truffles this December!!!! LOL Seriously though, they are EXTREMELY YUMMY - very good chocolate!
