Favors...

Favors...

Initially our favors were going to be the 'Loving Spoonfuls' measuring spoons with a heart cookie cutter and a recipe for FH's favorite cookies.

Then I decided to do a 'message in a bottle' with a donation scroll since I have lost so many of my family in the last few years. My sisters LOVED the idea, but I kind of felt 'disappointed' not to do a traditional favor.

I said this to my boss and as a result he contributed a huge chunk of money to Susan G. Koman, ADA and ACS as an engagement gift in memory of my sister, my father and my mother. He told me that he wanted me to do a favor that I liked without feeling any undue pressure.

I thought that was very sweet and told my sister that I am back to the spoons idea. She said that it was very selfish of me NOT to do the donations anyway. But to be honest... the donation that I would make would not be anywhere NEAR a significant amount! And the spoons would still be a less expensive route to go...

Am I being selfish by not doing the donation?

ETA: My sisters and I already contribute to each of these foundations on the birth and death anniversaries of our mother (this will be the first year), father and sister - about $300 a year to each.

i dont think its being selfish.....you made and make donations already, theres nothing to feel bad about wanting to give a favor.
its up to you though.....what are you going to feel better about?

you can still do the scroll and say that a donation has been made by a caring family friend as well....so that people know that a donation was made...

perhaps she feels that you are ditching the idea of the donation on that day..if you acknowledge the donation, maybe she will feel better.

No you are not being selfish!!!!!! This is your(& FH's) day, not anyone else. No one has the right to tell you what to do, you do what you want to.

I don't think you are being selfish. That is very nice of you to make yearly donations. Do what you feel is right.

I don't think it's selfish at all. To be honest, when I went to a wedding over the summer that gave a donation to the AHA, in memory of the brides father, i thought it was sweet, but kind of wished i had a little favor to take home with me. I think while your guests would apprciate it, they would also like something to remember your special day by.

By the way, you could always mention that a generous guest donated a sum of money in memory of your family as an engagement gift.

No it's not being selfish at all. You make donations all the time. Doesnt have to be your your favors. If you feel that strongly why not make a note attached to your registry info giving people the option of donating or buying you and fh something
