Favors or a Donation...

Favors or a Donation??

What do you think?

We were thinking of doing photo cookies, but then we thought a donation might be nice.

Any input?

I'm a huge fan of the donation. Most of the time the favor ends up in my car until I throw it out....unless it's something really useful...like a bottle of wine. Most weddings I have been to go with the donation...and I've never been sad to not get a favor. The charity needs the money more!

If it within your budget, you could give a small favor and also give a donation. My cousin got married a few years ago and gave the guests small bud vases she got online and then made a donation to the American Cancer Society.

Good Luck

Oh god we had expensive favors (two monogramed pint classes 2 colors and two coasters from ireland) and yes I had to had them and dh loved them it went with our theme but honestly deep down inside i wanted to do a donation. I feel with spending all this cash on a wedding that you should take a part of it and donate it to something that is a worth while cause. I see it as such a respectful thing to do. If I would go back in time I would fight to do that. Glasses, frames, edible items people use but for the most part most favors are thrown out. I don't know how many weddings I have gone to and tossed out the favors since I couldn't use them.

We made personalized CDs and are doing a donation. In the long run, you are using the $ wisely, IMO. Most people dont need a knick-knack.

We decided on donations to Make-a-Wish for personal reasons. I like the idea of donations even if you make donations regardless of your wedding. It is EXTREMELY difficult to find useful favors that will not get thrown in a junk drawer or in the garbage. It's a lot of money and I would rather it go to something useful. Hey I consider the party that's costing me tens of thousands of $$$ as a thank you!

I think it's a great idea. We're doing one as well.

i like donations and considered doing one... i have family members who have suffered from cancer and have passed and i considered a donation favor to either breast cancer or the american cancer society... i have also been to several weddings where the bride has made donations in honor of a family member and i think that depending on the circumstance and who it is it may bring up difficult conversations for people... we decided no because of this... on a side bar i have hosted fund raisers for the acs on my own!

We did donation to St. Jude. They give you either a bookmark or scroll... we did the scroll. I rolled it up and stuck a fall leaf on front and tied it with raffia... I would post a pic but i'm horrible at that.

I wanted to make donations, and FH wanted something that guests could enjoy, so we compromised. We're making chocolate Thank You's so there's something small on the table for each guest, and we're also making donations to several cancer organizations that helped me and my family when I had cancer as a teenager. Back then, these organizations were tremendously helpful and provided $$ and support to us when we needed it most. To me, the idea of giving something back now that I'm alive, healthy, getting married, and able to help someone else is just something I have to do.

We did donations. Honestly, I know how much time and caring goes into choosing favors and I feel badly saying this but...most of the time unless it is an edible favor, they end up in the Goodwill bag because I don't have a use for them It is really hard to find a favor that is useful other than edible ones. With donations you know the charity will use the money towards bettering others' lives.

Nobody is going to miss a favor. I never ever have! I am buying a picture frame for every table and putting a little blurb about our charity, Love 146, a charity our church supports. I know everybody will read it and agree that ending the trafficking and rape of children for profit in Thailand and around the world is more important and a crappy favor.

I am hoping our venue lets us have small cake boxes with a sticker of our name and date so that guests may take home some deserts from the vinenese deserts. That way they have something.

There are so many good causes, im sure one will appeal to you and FH.

I'm going to do a donation and a small favor. I think donations are great (esp. if the B or G have a personal reason). I'm going to donate to the brain tumor foundation.. they are giving scrolls and awareness ribbons for my to give to my guests. In addition to that, I'm gonna do a small favor to go with my theme....

i saw someone do a donation where they put the card w/ the donation info on a photo holder, so it counted sort of as a favor too!

Re: Favors or a Donation...

we are doing a donation as our main favor.

But we will be having a candy bar with baggie for people to take stuff home, photobooth and cigar roller...That is all more than enough!!

I say, unless you're going to do an edible (or drinkable) favor, go with a donation. Like many of the other girls have said... most people just end up throwing it away or it sits collecting dust on a shelf somewhere. Trust me, nobody will miss it if you don't have a favor! A donation goes a long way.
