Favors Poll

Favors Poll

I've seen people discussing this and I am curious as to the opions of everyone. Figure this is the easiest way to do it.

I've been to a multi-millionaire's daughter's wedding and there were no favors.

so I don't think that cheap or frugal should be on that list.

also, I doubt that Trump gave out favors at his wedding.

it's just not done by everyone.

i think a lot of girls are using $ in other places that is well spent.. i rather spend my $ on things i will notice and hopefully others will..

im thinking of doing a donation to an animal shelter (dog lover)

I think a donation is a great idea! I am sorry to say, but I cannot tell you how many favors I have thrown away. I think it is wise to spend the money elsewhere -JMO

One of the options should have been 'poor.'

I think on of the options should have been 'thoughtless'. I think there should be a favor or a donation made to a charity. Either is good but when I go to a wedding I like to see one or the other. JMO.

I think I would have to agree with that - I just feel that it is a nice way to say thank you and show people that you appreciate their generous gifts. I don't think it needs to be something very extravagant, it's more or less just a token. JMO

I think thats a little harsh... I mean you spend tens of thousands on the wedding, send thank you cards, tell everyone at the wedding thank you for coming, why should guests expect something?
Be honest, what are you going to do with that 'token'. Most people either throw them away or put them in a drawer never to be seen again. To call someone thoughtless is a bit mean.

Re: Favors Poll

I totally respect that, but if you have tens of thousands of dollars to spend on a wedding, what's a couple hundred dollars (or less) more? What would be the reason not to give a favor? It usually makes guests leave the party feeling a little happier...I'm all for happy!

Re: Favors Poll

i'm pretty vocal about not giving favors. you all can think what you want--doesn't matter to me!

the most expensive and glamorous weddings usually do not have favors. do you think donald trump gave out coasters?? (not that there's anything wrong with coasters!)

personally, i either leave favors at weddings or throw them out. i can't think of any i've kept. so many brides worry about these 'perfect' little touches, but they're often the only ones who notice them.

i'm not doing them and i'm proud of it! i think it's a waste. i wouldn't even keep my own stupid little favor, and i don't expect anyone to keep it if i wouldn't

but to each her own. if you want to spend money on favors, go ahead!!! if it makes you happy, go ahead!!!

and to those of you who say an extra few hundred won't hurt--all i have to say is you must be very fortunate to have your parents paying for your wedding, or you are very fortunate to have so much available money. i have been saving my tutoring money to buy my invitations--which are a necessity. i don't have a few hundred $$ laying around for non-necessities.

but i'm curious to those of you who ordered favors---how many did you have left over afterward because people didn't take them? and how many people have actually seen their favor being used in someone's house?

I put other because I actually don't care. I don't go to weddings expecting a favor and hav left it behind many times. A donation is the best favor in my book...something edible/drinkable would be second. I wouldn't think any less of any bride/groom for not having favors. The older ladies (moms and grandmas) are the ones that seem to think this is 'crucial'.

We gave wine...and there weren't any left at the end of the night, but even if there were I wouldn't have a problem 'disposing' of it...I'm a lush!

I find that unnecessarily nasty.

How about 'on a budget'? That's probably the second thing that would come to my mind if I went to a wedding with no favor. And I wouldn't think anything ill of the bride for that. The first would be that she decided not to them for one reason or another not related to wedding finances.

Re: Favors Poll

Well said Summerbride!!!!! :)

Seriously...I just don't understand some of the mentalities on this board. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinions but never once did it cross my mind that a bride was cheap or thoughtless b/c there were no favors. I could care less about favors. Do they look cute? Sure. But in the end i walk away looking at it wondering where i'm going to store it.

In the beginning i was obsessed about favors..what i could do for less $$ , what would be useful etc...but as wedding planning went on i realized how many expenses there are and sometimes a few hundred saved in the area of favors just makes sense. My mom is making small bags of truffles for everyone cause she wants to do it, but if not for that we'd go with nothing. Too bad if someone notices and considers me 'cheap'. Hopefully none of my family or friends are like that

I don't think she meant it like that. I read it to be like my own situation..the bride and groom are completely drained from all else so decided to forgo favors...

i don't think she meant it in a bad way. i take no offense to the word poor--and she even put it in parentheses.

emberlynn you're right--some of us are just poor in the money sense, but rich in many other ways

Well I read the poll as if you were a guest at the wedding - what would you think of the bride if she had no favors. It seemed like she was saying she would think the bride was poor, in a rude way.

Maybe she didn't mean it that way. But putting it in quotes only tells me that she was quoting it as choice for the poll options not that she was joking in empathy with other brides on a budget. A smiley would have done that much better.

I did not intend for my comments to make anyone feel like I was attacking their choices. I was honestly just explaining my choice. I don't think people are cheap for not buying favors, I just think that it is thoughtful to do so. (And no, my parents aren't paying for my wedding OR my favors). I don't particularly care for knick-knacks either - we're giving bottles of wine from the winery that we have been going to since we've been together. If they don't take them, I would not be offended, but I don't think that will be the case. I don't even really know why this is being discussed....it seems like a personal decision and I don't think anyone is going to convince anyone else to change their minds!!!! I'm sure we will all have the weddings of our dreams regardless

Re: Favors Poll

Honestly, some people may hate me for this, but I have never kept a favor, I may have taken it home, but in the junk drawer it went or in the garbage. I really don't have space for trinkets and I already have everything I need.

I don't have anything against them. I think brides who don't do them are wise! There are MUCH more important things to think about and I personally like donations. I just hate to see so much money wasted when some people just leave them on the table.

My favorite favors however are picture frames, because we could always use another or chocolate!
