Fear of Flying?

Fear of Flying?

Can anyone relate? What are you doing? Drugs just make it impossible to evacuate if necessary!!! How entrenched in my own phobia am I!?!?!?! Seriously though, I've been trying to convince FH that Montauk is one of the most prestigious vacation spots in the world. He spent all his childhood summers there, and doesn't feel like it's exotic enough. I agree, but what's a girl to do???

I am also afraid to fly but its finally come to the point that i want to go away soooooooo badly that i am willing to fly anyways for our next trip. i plan on taking 3 benadryl pills and drinking as much alcohol as i can, lol.

i too panic on planes... so much so that i boarded one back in may to go to PR and took valium with me just in case... i forgot that i left the pills in the bags that i placed in the overhead compartments and i started freakin out, made fh get up n get em cuz i knew i coulndt function without them... i started hyperventilating and everything... so i popped one of those and within 10-15 mins, i didnt not have a freakin care in the world

i couldnt have done it without the drugs...

Re: Fear of Flying?

I'm laughing at that post because I really identify with the power of benadryl and vodka....nothing works quite like that combo. I keep joking with FH that we need to start practicing our 'evacuation holds' because he'll have to cart my a** off that plane if we need to get off... Really though, it's more about the anticipatory anxiety for the week or two before hand. Maybe the wedding help distract me in the preceding days....I don't know.

i too worried the whole night b4 i had to board the plane.. i didnt get any sleep b/c it made me so nervous... if you really want that amazin honeymoon and that blue water that you're not gonna get from montauk... then you'll figure out a way to get the up courage and get on that plane... its soo worth it!

Montuck is a nice place but not the most prestigeous places in the world IMO , there are sooo many others extravagant places out there which you need a plane to get to. You just have to have a positive peace of mind that nothing will happen on the plane

I HATE planes. I take a xanax before I get on and it sorta calms me. I also take deep breaths and listen to calming music on take off b/c thats the worst part for me. Once i'm up there, im pretty much OK, but i dont like the takeoff and climbing- it gives me anxiety for some reason. It also helps me to sit by the window.

The xanax doesnt knock me out so I can still function if need be.

i dont have that fear but you can always go somewhere in driving distance away from NY...ive driven to south carolina/ north carolina and its nice there...and about 6 more hours from there is florida..make it into a fun road trip and stop a few places on the way..theres no flying involved but far away from long island where either of u have spent your summers

i would definitely recommend xanax. Talk to your doc about how you feel & he'll be able to get you something...

The reason i say xanax, like Christine suggested was because take one and it will NOT knock you out - it kinda just 'chills' ya out. For me, I take 2 - nighty night...but only for a short while...but one is just fine!

drive to Florida, or South Carolina.
It's nice bonding time in the car. Heck, take the train if you want.

FH is terrified of flying. he hasn't gotten his passport yet, and i'm positive that is why.

i wish i had some advice...

I agree with trying to get Xanax, my friend has a crazy fear of flying and swears by taking it. Ive talked to her while she had it in her system and she was fine, a lil bit of a calm tone in her voice but she was with it.

Re: Fear of Flying?

You wanna talk about fear..My FH is an AIRPLANE MACHINIST / ENGINEER..HE BUILDS PLANES AND HE WILL NOT FLY!!!!!!!!!!

Never has and never will..His words exactly..I cant deal with it..I just tell him meet me there in the car..LOL
his actual job is to set up a machine with the proper dimensions and make a part..Then inspect it and certify it and then send it to the assembly line..Nobody after him checks it..They just put in on there..That's scary!

i just say that there are a lot more car and train accidents then there are plane crashes..and if you are flying over water..its safer then if you were to crash over land..right?

XANAX! by far it is my best friend when i fly. I am a horrible flier and dread it for weeks before..actually i am dreading it already that I have to fly for my honeymoon! so Xanax and a cocktail should do the trick, you aren't alone in your fear!

Re: Fear of Flying?

what about a cruise, there are some cruises that leave from NY or jersey. But it would be a good idea to try to get over your fear, so i guess xanax or something might help.
