Feast of 7 Fish

What fish do you eat and why? Being Jewish, I knew Italians ate fish but I thought that was like Jews eating Brisket. What is the significance of it?

Re: Feast of 7 Fish

I was introduced to this at my first Christmas Eve with Tom's family.....I had never experienced it before....and I am not a huge fan of shellfish, so it was quite a shock!
Luckily, thay also include lasagna and chicken cutlets...

Re: Feast of 7 Fish

I also think it represents the 7 days of the week. We eat just about any kind of fish, but usually there's octopus and eel in there (blech!!!)

Ah, I found the meaning of the number 7:

Why seven? Seven is a very important number. It stands for the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church. The seven days of creation. In Biblical numerology, seven is a number of perfection

I can not wait till we go to my grandmother's tonight. She is 91 years old and she makes the whole fish feast for the entire family. God bless her. And she doesn't want any help from any of us.
