Our officiant (who is very close to FH) told us this weekend that he is not going to charge us the 'normal fee' to perform our wedding but said that we should come up with the amount ourselves. I have no clue how much to pay this man.... mind you, hes coming from Jersey to Long Island to do the ceremony, will have to come the rehearsal the Thursday before the wedding, and will stay for the reception AND is going to stay at a hotel the night of the wedding. I was thinking of offering to pay for the hotel room in addition to his fee but I am not sure how much we should give him to perform the ceremony. FH thinks we should just give him a fee and not offer to pay for the room. Any suggestions??
TIA

Re: Fee for officiant
Well mine costs $250.00. Maybe see what the others girls come up with and figure out a middle range.

Re: Fee for officiant
We are also having FI's minister who is in VA come to NY to perform our ceremony. From what I've been told by others, its expected that we cover (or at least offer to cover) travel expenses and hotel accommodations. Its also addressed in Peggy Post's wedding etiquette book (which also says we're responsible for meals too!). We haven't exactly approached a fee for the ceremony yet, so I'm sorry I can't help you out there, but I figured I'd pass that information on. Good luck.

Re: Fee for officiant
Our 'stipend' for the church is $300. This is what I have heard is the 'norm.' Hope it helps.

Re: Fee for officiant
I think it's more like $500 for a church offering now, so I would imagine that's about how much an officiant is.

Re: Fee for officiant
I've heard quotes from between $400 and $650 (not including any special travel arrangements).

Re: Fee for officiant
Our original choice, FH's pastor from NJ, wasn't available to come to Westchester but we were going to make a $300 donation to the church (he didn't charge a fee). The guy we're using is coming from LI and charges $475. Hope this helps

Re: Fee for officiant
Ours is charging us $450. If he is not charging a fee I would say give him $300 and pay for the hotel. I think that would be more than generous and would be right in the range of what the going rate is
