Now that the holidays are over, and most of the cookies/candy is out my house I really need to get serious about taking off a few of these extra pounds. Has anyone tried any of the Diet programs out there? I know a lot of people lose weight on Weight Watchers but I find the point system to be too free and open. I need a bit more rigid program. Any suggestions. Thanks.

Feedback on Diet programs
Oh I was going to recommend Weight Watchers. It worked for me. I found the meetings very motivating and the fact that I could eat real food satisfying.
Some things I learned that got me through were Skinny cow which is fat free ice cream sandwiches that are awesome dessert alternatives. Jolly time popcorn. Popcorn goes a long way. Raisans are also good fillers and lots and lots of water.
Good luck. If you decide to go with weight watchers let me know if you need any more of my helpful hints. I learned them at the meetings.

People are usually looking for something less rigid so it`s funny you are asking for one that is more strict, but I hear where you are coming from. Before our wedding, I basically stayed with 3 square meals a day and NO SNACKING!!! Not even a little bit. I lost weight and felt very good on the wedding day but obviously the wedding day is a huge motivation to stick with it. Afterwards, I had felt so deprived, I started gaining weight back almost immediately and then added another 10 lbs. I started Weight Watchers 2 months ago and lost 24 lbs - more weight in a shorter time frame than in took me before the wedding with all that rigidity. So my vote is for WW because if you want to lose weight, healthier & more flexible is proven to have lasting results. Since I have put my own research into it, I can vouch for it. Good luck.

I used (and still using) Jenny Craig. It is pretty rigid, you have to eat their food mostly and you are given a list of other things you can eat. I lost about 12 pounds in 2-1/2 months (I started at 130, went down to 118 on day of wedding, 11/17, and still at 118, but I haven`t been very good at keeping to the diet recently). Some of the food is pretty goods (however, some is pretty awful). You can choose your own food, so once you try everything, you just buy what you like. I know some people don`t like it, but I don`t mind it at all.

Another Weight Watchers vote!
I am down 42 pounds since last January! And you can make it as strict as you want, I followed it exactly in the first 5 months till I felt I had better control.

I am convinced!
Thanks everyone. I am going to start Weight Watchers again this week. I have done it in the past and lost weight. I have been moderately successful on my own in the past few months but there is something about getting weighed every week that makes you think about it more...I was thinking about it anyhow but
thanks for the added push
everyone..Good luck to everyone trying
to shed pounds for their big
day... I can't believe I only have 3 and a half months to go....
I lost 15 pounds on WW and I love the program. the key for me is I did it with 2 other freidns and we worked together so we would pick apart our lunches and were very supportive.
the thing that kept me going was every week after weigh in we 'pigged out' a little (we went out to dinner) but it was good motivation the whole week b/c everytime I wanted something I shouldnt eat, I wouldsay I'll wait until Wednesday night.
I gained about 5 pounds this vacation, so i need to get back on program and want to lose an additional 10.
remember which ever program you choose..if you don't like the meetings try another one - the leader makes a HUGE difference.

I lost 49 pounds ...
I lost 49 pounds and used Weight Watchers (even without exercise). I had started dieting even before I joined WW, but, obviously stepped it up once I got engaged. I'm so happy I did it. I gained a lot back since the wedding, but I never stopped counting the points in my head. It's just that my motivation stopped for a while. I'm back on it now, and working out three times a week. I'm so much happier with myself when I'm on it. I feel in control.
And Nicola, you are SOOOO right about the popcorn going a long way. I survive on popcorn - it's my nighttime snack. I use Orville Redenbacher's Smart Pop - it's 94% fat free, and the ENTIRE bag is only 2 points!!!
