Is everyone feeding there vendors? My hall is only $20 cheaper for vendors than it is for guests...so if I'm paying all that money to feed them they better not be expecting a big tip...especially since almost all of them are the owners. What do you guys think I should do about this?

Re: feeding vendors and tipping
I am definitely feeding them (my hall is 1/2 price for meals for vendors) Tips will vary based on service that day.

it is pretty customary to feed them.. i think you dont have to tip as much when its the owner verses a regular employee

Re: feeding vendors and tipping
Several vendors had it in their contract that they will be fed. I think it makes sense since people like my photographer and videographer were with me for 8 hours and you can't go 8 hours without a meal. I also fed the musicians although some of them were only there for about 5 hours. I also tipped them as well.

I agree with you that the idea of paying for expensive meals for vendors, paying their high fees and then topping all that off with a tip can be a bit much to swallow, especially when they own their own business. I would definately provide meals for the photographer and videographer, since they are usually with you for over 8 hours. I was really up in the air as to whether or not to feed my ten-piece band, since they were only performing for 4 hours. After speaking with them, I decided it was better to feed them and have them happy, but they won't be getting a big tip in addition.

Re: feeding vendors and tipping
So what should I tip them....can someone give me a breakdown? Remember I am already paying like $90 per vendor to feed them. Thanks girls.....I'm just trying to add up all my totals to make sure we have enough money to pay out next week.

I also plan on feeding everyone (my hall gives a reduced rate). Wouldn't expect anyone to go that long without a meal, and for my own selfish motives, if they are hungry they may not work as hard!! Also I like my vendors, and want to treat them well, as I am sure they will do the same for me.

Re: feeding vendors and tipping
I am feeding my vendors, but mine are at half price at my hall. I will tip them too. I have heard from alot fo people and read in ettiquette books that you dont have to tip owners, especially if they work out of home because they dont have overhead costs..but thats at your discretion. I only have one owner comeing to mine, my videographher and I will tip only because I know he'll do an exceptional job. Your hall should only charge half..thats crazy that they are only a couple dollars cheaper. Id argue that. But you dont want hungry vendors..they will be at your wedding all day..they need to eat. Could get crabby if hungry

Re: feeding vendors and tipping
We are giving them dinner. I also love my vendors and heck, if I knew them on a more personal level I would have invited them as a guest. Seriously though, if you are having a photographer and a videographer spending the whole day with you, it is expected.

Re: feeding vendors and tipping
I'm feeding them (anyone working 4 hours or more, such as photo, coordinator, dj, etc) , I think it's a must-besides I don't want these people hungry and annoyed when they're working for me (many put the meal requirement right into their contract anyway) . And, it's not their fault that your hall only charges $20 less, so I would still tip them the amount you think is appropriate for the service they rendered.
