Feeding Your Vendors

Original post by Regal Beagle

How many people think that is is wrong to have to pay full price to feed your vendors if they are recommended by your reception hall?

I am human, I know that my vendors have to eat, but I have to pay for their services, food and tip them too! My hall should give us a break!

I have 6 vendors to feed.
Also, when do they eat? When we eat? I am not comfortable with my vendors getting loaded on my dime--lol Esp. since they are supposed to be working.
I have seen it at other weddings. Some of the vendors were getting drunk and slacking off! I don't want to have to worry about that.

I don't mean to sound like a B#$%*, but the bills keep adding up and I worry things won't go right.

I am just venting!

EXCUSE ME BUT.........................DID YOU READ WHAT WE HAVE BEEN SAYING??????? (Carolinebr)

My gripe is with the reception hall and the cost ot it.
I witnessed a supposed 'professional' get drunk off his but at a wedding that these people paid good money for. I have also seen and read posts of wedding 'professionals' not doing their job and just hanging out. We all think we are hiring professionals for our wedding. A site like this wouldn't exist if everything went according to plan and vendors did what they were supposed to do. So don't preach about professionals!

I nor did anyone else say that vendors shouldn't be fed. Of course, they should be fed. They are providing a service for us. We are not cold hearted. No one ever said they shouldn't eat! Every bride wants to make sure that nothing goes wrong on their special day.
You need to read before your post something so obnoxious !

Ladies, What's up?????

You should REALLY calm down & count to ten next time before you write something so rude to someone. You kind of come off as a b#tch. This website is supposed to be fun & infomative &... FUN! No need to start a war over this.

Sadly, there are plenty of brides out there (and on this site) who DON'T think the vendors should be fed at all so please don't jump down my throat. If you search a thread a few weeks ago on 'How To Feed A Vendor Bourne Brides' you'll see what I mean. Some brides wrote that they shouldn't be fed and that they should 'come on a full stomach.'

AS I STATED, the vendors do not get the same meal. I have yet in my 10 years worked a wedding where the vendors get the same meal. They get a small little dish. If your hall is charging you the full price (which I have never heard of) they should serve the full meal. If you have a problem with that, take it up with your RH, don't take it out on me.

If you would like, I'd be happy to talk to you about when the vendors eat, since that was one of your concerns.

I believe to feed our vendors at our hall is half price.

2 photographers, 1 videographer, Dj and his asst., and our DOC and asst. Majority are with me all day can't imagine not feeding them.

I'm going to answer the initial question. Yes, it is wrong that you have to pay FULL PRICE for your vendors. Your caterer should really give a discount. Caterers all know the drill, that's rude of them to put you in a bad position. My caterer told me that you really are supposed to feed them and offered me a great price for everyone.

I do agree that my vendors should be fed, but I think my reception hall should cut us a break, especailly if we use their vendors. I think they said a third off. What if I had a 10 piece band---geez!

I asked my photographers how many people will be working my wedding so I can give the hall a head count and they said 'Thank You'. I thought that that was weird. Do people really say, I'm sorry, but you can't sit and eat??????

Good suggestion, I have to ask my DJ because he is bringing three people.

I didn't even think of that.

I just have this fear that someone is going to get drunk and ruin my wedding---(like at the last wedding I went to)lol

I guess my family can handle that all on their own.

I all of a sudden see my once small list getting out of hand.
I want everyone to eat, drink and be happy. I just don't want things to go wrong as we all do.

Thanks Ladies!

You mean you're worried a vendor will get drunk??

The reason their meals are less are b/c they are NOT part of the bar tab (and also b/c they don't get all the courses and don't get CH food) -- and tell the hall that NO VENDORS should be served alcohol. It's that simple. You might also ask your vendors to include in their contract that they will not drink alcohol at the wedding if you are so concerned. Telling the RH that vendors don't get served alcohol should take care of the problem. Most RH's wouldn't serve the vendors alcohol anyway.

For those whose vendors say they will eat the at the CH... You might want to think about whether or not you WANT your vendors at your CH. Your band/DJ should be setting up then and your photographer should be taking pictures... Just a thought. Even if they're not working, I personally do not want my vendors 'attending' the CH with our family and friends.

I agree with the others to ask the vendors, but I really think they should be fed. Most places either charge 1/2 price or 1/3 off... I don't think that's a huge deal. Unfortunately, most places do not count them towards the final head count.

I agree, it is not right that you have to pay full price for half a meal. It seems they won't eat the same meal, so it should not be the same price.

I think it's wrong too.. -yes, they are working hard at making our night wonderful but come on -I recently found out that in one of my vendors contracts it says 'will you feed them' if you check no there is a service charge of 150.... I mean $150 -that is a little steep? -that is coming from the vendor not the reception Hall -who eats $150 worth of food? crazy

I think the OP stated later the RH was giving her 1/3 off.

I have seen some RH's where they only take off $20 or so... same for kids!!

I think it is wrong to pay full price. That price includes linens. liquor, CH, all dinner courses, desert......

I pay $50 for non-reccommended vendors and $25 for recommended vendors. It should be less for the ones they recommend!

My dad is in a wedding band and 95% of the time his band gets fed... when you think abou it the band usually shows up at least an hour before the wedding to set up and what not and figure they are commuting somtimes a half hour or more to get to the wedding, so that would be 6 or more hours without eating. Like the rest of the girls said... they don't get the same food as your guests and you can usually get a discount for vendors.

I am coming of as a B(*&^ ? That wasn't very nice! I felt like your original post was attacking me as well as the other women here.

As you wrote...'.I don't know what weddings you have been to that the vendors were drunk but I have NEVER seen it. Hire a professional & this won't happen. ' (directly referring to my post)

If you would have just made a blanket comment, this would not be going on. Why did you choose to pick on my statement? I just reported what I have seen and one of my fears--thats all!

If I am complaining about money I am sorry, but I am paying for this on my own and every little bit counts.

Was that necessary? I didn't appreciate your FM either.

Yes, everyone has their own opinion, but YOU went off on us first!

I am not taking out my issues with the RH out on you.........come on!

You are right, this site is supposed to be fun. I don't think that we should go at each other like this. We are all supposed to support each other.

So let's forget it and move on please!
