His dad has never been a big part of his life. moved to FL when he was little, would come to LI and not tell FH or see FH. The only contact they ever have is when his dad IM's him and says 'there'. So FH refuses to call his dad to tell him we got engaged.. and i don't blame him.
FH's grandmother (who is in her early 70's) lived out on LI and now recently moved to FL too. She would never call him, but would call to speak to his mom. Would send cards etc. When she was deciding on moving she told FH's mom that she has nothing here for her to stay (Umm what about your grandson?)
Then FH's mom called her to tell her we got engaged and before she could even tell her about the e-party she refused to come. She has 2 grandchildren FH and FH's half sister (who is 10) She couldn't get her butt here to for once show her grandson that someone on that side of the family cares?
I'm so mad.. and i really feel bad for FH
Anyone else have similar problems?

Re: feel bad for FH
Kind of...FH's stepfather (who was a large part of his childhood) lives in NC now, his mother and his stepfather are divorced. FH gets really excited to see his family when we go down there. Everytime we go to pick up his brothers (who love with his stepdad), his stepdad makes sure he is out. They hardly talk and he never gets a call or anything on his birthday. He doesn't talk about it much but I know it bothers him. He asked his sister if she thinks he'll come to the wedding and she said she doesn't think so, he was upset.

Awww.. that stinks.... esp since they were close. I don't think it is right for his ex-step-dad to now act like that and pretend he wasn't once acting as a father
FH doesnt talk about it much either but I know he is hurt by it.
FH's dad doesn't even send b-day cards and didnt even call or send card when he got his doctorate.
It makes me so mad that a father could act like that!

That's terrible. How lucky of both of your FHs to be marrying such kind and understanding women... I feel so bad for them myself especially b/c it's so much harder for men to show how they really feel. Hugs to the men...

Thanks! I hugged him because you said to. I feel bad too, but there are a lot of people that love him so it's nothing to get too down about. When you have 2 parents that divorce and remarry there are plenty of sibllings and aunts and uncles, so he definitely has a silver lining! It's tough but think of all the people that do love FH! Dont let a few people nasty people in the family get the better of your happy time!

aww thanks!!!
Luckily, FH has a great mom and a great step dad.
But it still stinks to feel your dad doesn't care about you.
But I'm here. for him... and i'm going to hug him when i see him Friday!

Re: feel bad for FH
I totally understand! My FH grew up without his dad since they didn't live in the same country. You'd think that when his dad returned to the US that he'd make an effort to be there for his son... NOPE.
FH didn't expect anything from him anyway and he doesn't let it get to him but he has a heart and I KNOW it hurts! He even sent the guy a Father's Day card last year and his dad didn't even acknowledge it when they spoke! And he definitely got the card!
Yes, hugs for the men! I can't wait to see my babe in November!

i feel bad for him! im sorry hun....
that really stinks.
i mean FH doesnt see his dad that often but his dad still shows that he cares...
it is a shame...people will realize one day when they have no one...that they should have loved their family with all their heart!
that is why i am so close to mine...they are and will always be there for me.
