feeling a bit down...

feeling a bit down...

ever since yesterday when i was looking for a song to dance to w/my dad i've been very depressed. i actually started crying uncontrollably after listening to one very sad song. at 1st i thought it was caused by missing my family so much, but now i'm unsure that's the only thing. just feel very very sad and anxious. ugh....

FH tries to make me smile and laugh but that seems to work only for that moment.

Hopefully it will pass. I get in moods like that, too. It happened every so often when I lived across the country from my family. Focus on FH and happy thoughts. Sorry you are going through this!!

do you talk to them alot? do they use email? it might just be the whole planning process and them being far away. i live upstairs from my parents, but my mom is barely involved in wedding planning. the first few months of planning, like when we were picking an RH, i was crying almost every week because i felt like this should be a mother-daughter bonding time to do wedding planning stuff, but she appeared sooo disinterested. we talked about it since (and fought about it to), and things are better than before now. she is still not super involved by any means, but at least i am not crying everyday. i also reset my expectations.

hope you feel better soon! try to talk to your parents more and keep them involved as much as you can.

oh man my mom is very involved! too involved for someone who lives a 10 hour flight away. i talk to her all the time and we discuss every detail in length until i think all meaning drains from them. but i did go dress shopping by myself and that was extremely hard. i looked around the salons and all i saw are brides with someone helping them and giving opinions - mom, dad and uncles, MOH's, BM's - i had none of that. was very hard. when i came in and the lady asked me why i came alone i actually had to say 'there is no one' ugh....
sorry that ur mom isn't taking a more involved role, that definitely shouldn't be happening! what's her reason?

and thanks girls for the support!

well, my mom's mom didnt help her w her weddding. my mom had a small wedding and her MOH helped finalize a few things and that was it. it wasnt the whole long engagement, lots of planning thing. so i think she is just really clueless about it. her girlfriends either have kids that are way grown and off on their own or have no kids, so she just doesnt know what is expected. then, she also thinks that i dont want her opinion (just cuz i dont listen to everything she says!! lol), so she would rather stay out of it.

im trying to get her involved slowly, without setting myself up for a big disappointment.

as for salons - i have been to most of them on my own. the only good thing is they dont pressure you to buy when you are by yourself!! if you need a bridal shopping friend, let me know!

Re: feeling a bit down...

That IS hard. My parents and sister (who is my MOH) all live in Florida, so I've yet to be able to go shopping for a dress with my mom or sister. I went into two dress shops on my own and had to leave (didn't have appointments) because I started to get REALLY upset seeing the other girls with their moms/sisters/grandmas/etc. I could go with my friends, of course, but I really want to try on dresses for the first time with my mom there.

I even cried the first time FH and I went to our RH (in the car afterwards) because it was when it hit me: thorughout this whole process, my family will not be able to physically be there, for the most part. But I find that phoning my mom and sister about the details helps a LOT.

It's an emotional time overall, and to have your family not with you only makes it that much more difficult. Trust me, girl...I know. There seems to be a few of us on here in similar situations, which is great for support in times like these where we get a little teary!

Re: feeling a bit down...

Thanks, that is very helpful knowing that others are in a similar situation and that can understand what I'm going through.
i think we need a support thread for all the brides that are doing this totally on their own! what do u say?
